Gigantea recovery.. how did yours do it?

Just Reefin'
It's great to see so many Gigs not just surviving, but thriving on the boards here.. With having two that were acquired reasonably close to each other (time) I saw the recoveries almost in parellel. It got me to thinking, how did everyone else's recover.. Do they recover the same as a species, etc or all individually?

Purple Gig - Started out very nubby, almost completely bleached with a tiny hint of purple in the tentacle tips.. First the tentacles started to get longer, initially around the mouth, then outward.. Once the tentacles got to a nice length, the zoox started to come back, and now they are ALL brown zoox'd tentacles, shaggy, with a beautiful purple tip. The interesting thing is, there were a lot of bald rows, and several breaks in the rows of tentacles.. Now that it looks almost 100% recovered, those are starting to actually grow back.. Bald patching spots now have little baby tentacles coming back. This gig is thriving!

Green Gig - Took a little different of a path.. Started out non bleached at all and hasn't lost of gained color at ALL. Beautiful bright bright nuclear green color, with no visible brown zoox spots because the tentacles were SO small. For those of you that followed its journey, many thought it was a haddoni. As the recovery happened, tentacles started to SLOWLY, and I mean SLOWLY get longer... Like the purple, first around the mouth area and since it doubled in size post coming into my DT, there were a lot, lot, lot of bald spots, rows missing, etc. Immediately before tentacles got too long and made much progress there were baby tentacles sprouting everywhere. So unlike the purple, before they grew in length, new ones grew back and recovered.. So it took a bit of a different path. Now that som any have grown back, in the last week it actually looks like a real true gig when the current moves the tentacles around.

Maybe I'm nuts, but how did your gigs recover? Did you, or have you noticed a pattern of what appendage, or what part of the animal recovers first?

Bump. I figured as much as we study our guys that someone would have some sort of insight.

Yeah we are not fish whispers, or at least we don't want anyone to think we are.

I can not help as I have not had and issue, knock on driftwood.

I got three Gigantea, two have been in captivity for 14 months and 1 for 10+ years. My two new Gigantea recover at a rate similar to xtlosx. About 3-4 motnhs before i think that both completly recovered.

I have my purple gig that I had to treat last week. It bleached a lil, during treatment but the tents are lengthening in the display. and it seems my green and purples tents have lengthened from the center out. But my blue has not improved but slowly has decreased in size. I attribute this to being in a low light spot. It hasent moved and makes me wonder if it will. Neither my green or blue needed treatment but as I have documented my purple has and is responding quite well to the treatment:)

Look at that... it just took a bump and now we're getting some chatter!! :-)

It's just interesting to me as we start to get more of an understanding of these animals, how they recover.. Both of mine recovered differently, but are doing well so far. The purple is HUGE..

As of this morning, the male baby onyx has finally joined our female in the purple... Woohoo!

I do not have a good picture of him recently. Will try to take one in the next few days

That purple color is amazing.. How often do you target feed you Gigs Minh? Since yours have been with you for much larger than I have had mine...

My purple looks like yours did in September in 2012?

WOW minh.... That shows a real good color change and wellness on those two.

I have quite a few pixs of mine, that I should start a small documentation set in my own tank thread.

It would be nice if we could make them into a slideset where you could click/auto change pictures.
