Hey all

I have a 5x2x2 and I want to get a gig but am unsure if it will be ok under my LEDs
Has anyone done it with aquarays by any chance??
Any tips for the gig?

Thanks
Ben

I will say I tried many times unsuccessfully and I had a 4 feet by 3 feet by 18 inch tank with 500 watts of Metal halide lighting. The most important thing for Gigantea's is not lighting however, its water flow. Keep that in mind. If you have any power heads it will find one.

Good Luck! I want to see pictures.

Depends on how many aquarays you have. I kept a haddoni and a magnifica under TMC tiles for about a year. The haddoni was (obviously) on the sand under 24" of water and the mag was under about 8" of water. The colour of the haddoni dulled slightly but otherwise it remained healthy and didn't bleach. The mag remained the same. So, in short, yes you can BUT just as with any other type of lighting you must provide enough. FWIW I had eight of the marine white 1000HD tiles over the tank which is 52" long x 32" wide. Giganteas are notoriously poor shippers but if you can get them over the initial acclimatisation phase which is when most losses occur, then they are fairly hardy but do require decent flow and ahem, lighting.

I used AI sol for my giganteas, and they seem to be doing OK. They have been under LED for less than 6 months so, only time will tell. The only differences is their colors are not as sharp / bright as they were when they were under MH.

Hey guys

ATM I have 3 1500xg tiles and 2 blue strips which should suffice at the beginning
I will have 3 1500xg tile 2 1000hs tiles and 4 blue strips wen I'm done
How much flow should a gig get

Forgot to mention but I don't think that the 1500XG tiles will be good enough. They are unlensed and so don't provide sufficient penetration/intensity for a 24" deep tank. In all honesty I think you would be better off with a good quality T5 unit rather than the types and numbers of Aquarays that you propose.

Giga will be a challenge if you haven't have one before...

but just make sure your parameters are good...

have good flow and good light.

Then only then you will have a good and healthy Giga...

but do be careful if you have power heads...

If I was to choose a nem for myself I would go for one of those cool looking maxi but for reef then ill do Rose bubble tip or something in that area.

Best of Luck...

Not sure about your exact type of LEDS, but I have had my S. Gig for over a year now and changed to LEDS about 2 weeks ago. Since I have its been gaining more color and I'm running 3w LEDS driven at 2w's along with having no optics. I would def. add random flow. The cheapest way of doing this is a Rio Polario I would say as they are less than a $100.00 and will certainly give it a nice touch along with being small and quiet. Mine has never moved and absolutly loves the flow it gets from this unit

Heres my Gig a couple of weeks ago under MH 250's Phoenix bulb

Here it is now under LEDS, The first picture shows the powerhead I'm talking about. Its a 3M Rio Polario wavemaker style powerhead
