Gimmito's 450 L-Shaped Display

This is far as I'm getting today...300 gallons sure goes fast. Although, I was able to fire up the 4 Tunze 6205's, 1 Tunze 6100, & Tunze wavemaker. I'm really happy the way the flow is thus far. The only part where I have some sand movement is at the right front where the 6100 is at...I'll add some larger grain sand in that area to take care of it.

I made 150 gallons of saltwater last night and filled up the tank up to the top of the overflows. I moved one of the rocks from the bommie to the right side and placed the Tunze rock on top of it. It stopped the sand from moving and being kicked up. I also added Dr. Tim's One and Ony Bacteria and will be adding reagent grade ammonium chloride daily. I'm shooting to get a 2 ppm reading.

Re: Gimmito's 450 L-shaped display
Update:

Temp-78
PH-8.3
Ammonia-1.0 ppm
Nitrite-0.5

Added 100 drops more (400 total) of ammonium chloride. Shooting for 2.0 ppm.

Cycle update:

Specific Gravity-1.026
Temp-78
PH-8.4
Ammonia-1.0 (added 100 drops ammonium chloride)
Nitrite-0.2 ppm
Nitrate-100 ppm

Note: I'm trying to raise the ammonia slowly, but the Red Sea Test kit I'm using goes from 1.0-2.5 ppm, so it's hard to gauge.
Glad to see the Nitrite creeping up and I have a Nitrate reading already. :D

Cycle update:

Specific Gravity-1.026
Temp-78
PH-8.4
Ammonia-0.5 (added 150 drops ammonium chloride)
Nitrite-1.0 ppm
Nitrate-250 ppm

Note: Nitrite & Nitrate are really starting to take off.

Cycle update:

SG (1.026)
Temp (78)
PH (8.4)
Ammonia (0.25 ppm)-added 250 drops of ammonium chloride
Nitrite (1 ppm)
Nitrate (100 ppm)

Note: I found my Salifert test kits, they are so much easier to use than the old Red Sea test kits. I'm still looking into the Hanna checkers, or I might just bite the bullet and get a Hach or LaMotte colorimeter.

I finally received my Water Blaster HY-16000 return pump. Here's a little size comparison to it's lil brother the HY-3000 (which will run the media reactors).

July 20, 2011

SG (1.026)
Temp (78)
PH (8.4)
Ammonia (<0.25)
Nitrite (0.1 ppm)
Nitrate (10 ppm)

Note: Ammonia & Nitrite are barely detectable. Cycle almost complete !

I got a chance to plumb the Water Blaster HY-16000. Since it's in sump, I'll have more room for a ATO tank and CaRx.

I got my QT back from Gen. He patched the old bulkhead holes and drilled new ones higher up. I was getting too much bubbles and a slurping sound w/the old ones being too low. I installed some new bulkheads and added tru unions for easy disassembly.

Now comes water test time. A little trick a buddy showed me (way back when) is to add a little silicone on the threads.

I had a few hours to work on some plumbing. I added some tru unions to the drains (for
further ease of disassembly) and finished the durso drains.

I wanted to fire up the water blaster, but I have a small leak where the bulkhead is in the sump. I'm going to have Gen patch it or I'll swing by Tap plastics and pick up a scrap and glue it myself.

I added sand and rock to the 40 gal fuge. I'm thinking of adding sea grass and a bunch of peppermint shrimp. I heard The Smithonian does that in their fuges, so they breed and their larvae feed the main display.

I got a chance to hookup the Water Blaster HY-16000 pump. It is indeed a beast, I have it dialed down probably 40%. I'll build a manifold to feed the skimmer & reactors and utilize the full potential of the pump. Also, it's quite a bit quiter than the hammerhead, but still audible. The test will be if the wife can hear it at night. :D

Hey Jim! :)

I told you that it would build resonance :D but no problem, Juan's Certificate of Approval is still up to date LOL
But I think it's easier removing that rather if the pump made a lot of noise itself.

Great video, that pump is a beast!

Ok, how's the lights going?

BTW, after 3 hours I managed to write 10 months of work in my new thread here too LOL:

Hey Juan !

Yes, that pump is a beast ! I will go your route and build a manifold to feed the skimmer and reactors. Did you build yours already ? I posted on your thread on RS regarding the bio film build up on the pump that will eventually quite the pump even more.

I'm glad you liked the video. I'm playing around w/my new iMovie app and will post another one soon of the rockwork and circulation.

As for the lights, I'm still looking for a welder who isnt "flaky."

I will checkout your "updated thread" also. lol.
