I had a little time to work on the tanks today. I placed live rock/sand in the small return
section of the sump in the QT to help cycle it. Based on a suggestion by Lee Birch on RF,
I decided to simplify things by using a hydro sponge instead ( it will be much easier to
medicate also). As soon as I can seed the sponges I can hopefully place an order for 6 black ice clowns from Proaquatix.

I also took out the frag racks in the FT since I was getting too much detritus build up under the racks. I'll have Gen modify them for better flow while I pickup my ATO tank for the main display on Monday.

Gen dropped off my water resevoir tower for the main display. It measures 14"x9"x42" and holds about 23 gallons. It will allow me to go a week without having to refill it.

The water tower in place. I also got to plumb in the bio pellet reactor (Reef Octopus SR-140), I plumbed the outlet of the reactor directly into the feed line into the skimmer. I"ll have to play with the flow to get it dialed in.

Gen also modified my frag racks. They were accumilating too much detritus inder the racks, so Gen routed them out and made different feet for more flow.

I also scored a couple of Ecotech MP10's from Bryan (SeminoleCPA). I'll use one on the 40 gal fuge and the other on the RSM.

Great update Jim!

Nice score on the MP's! I wished these little pumps would support 12mm glass, I would love placing some on my rear wall.

I think the ideal setup would be 2 MP 60's on the left/right side of your tank with four MP40's on the back (2 waving off the top and two lower to keep detritus suspended).

What do you think ?

That would be totally ideal!, though I need to save up for the third ecotech round LOL.

I posted a thread over at Ecotech sponsors forum asking about the best configuration, I'll see what they say.

I will be posting also the programming later on my thread if you want to check it out.

Thanks Jim :)

Beautiful frag Jim! congrats.

Sorry for not responding at your question in my thread.
I didn't use the Methylene Blue before introducing the fish into the QT, should I? or what was the main purpose for doing so? thank you. :)

Juan,

Here's a canned response:

Methylene blue is used in aquaculture and by tropical fish hobbyists as a treatment for fungal infections. It can also be effective in treating fish infected with ich, the parasitic protozoa Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. Methylene Blue is also very effective when used as part of a "medicated fish bath" for treatment of ammonia, nitrite, and cyanide poisoning as well as for topical and internal treatment of injured or sick fish as a "first response".

It also is very useful in oxiginating the water when fresh water dipping.

Thanks Juan. I never asked how hard is it to acquire coral frags in Guatemala ? Do you trade with fellow hobbyist ?

Trading here is difficult, I only have one friend basically in the hobby. (Local)
Also, coral importation is difficult, only LFS have license to do so and it's still hard, though not impossible.

Some of them are pricey, for example, that frag you got there can be sold over $ 150 here. It's going to bank me out the tank when filling it with corals LOL.

What I will do is once I get big colonies (Crossing my fingers that I get to that point) I can frag and sell them for a good amount, so I can recover some portion of the tank investment LOL.

Thanks Jim, I was figuring out how difficult is to get a license here for import, so I can at least skip the LFS, hopefully my import people can do this for me.

Thanks for the offering :)
