Gimmito's 450 L-Shaped Display

I traded some frags with a fellow reefer for this used quarantine tank. It measures roughly 2' x 2' and has 6 cubicles that measure 8" x 11" x 8". I remember talking to Matt Wandell during the SF Tank Tour, he mentioned they use similiar systems to acclimate their fish and inverts at the Steinhart Aquarium. It's made by a company named Minireef...anybody heard of these them ?

Got the score deal on the qt Ed, it just needs a little elbow grease. I'll bring it down to Gen's to polish up and add some black acrylic on the sides.

I think Tom will be mopping up the floor after all the drooling when we're done. :eek2:

Are you going to pick up the vortech battery back ups or the lumatek ballast ?

I probably won't get down there to after we're done with disneyland for the day (good thing he closes at 7 pm).

Since were only there once, i would to pick up two of the battery back up and two of the lumetek. But it all depends on deal we get..

I got a chance to finish up the electrical for the tanks. I added 15 additional outlets for the main display, frag tank, fuge, & qt. Now I have to rock it and cover the rock w/FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic). I found a place in SSF that sells 4'x8' sheets for 30 bucks. Anybody know of anyplace that has a better price ?

I finished the manifold the other day. It has five 1 1/2" outlets that will probably be reduced to one 1". I'm thinking of using the new Oceans Motions omniflex nozzles. The flow can be fine tuned by the 5 tru unions ball valves which can be broke open for easy service.

Gen dropped off my qt that needed a little tlc..It turned out better than expected.

I traded a shelf system for another 29 sump with my buddy Michael.

I built a couple of shelves for the qt and sump. I just need to wrap it with frp.

Here's some pic's of some nice fiji totoka live rock that I got from Patrick (FinalPhaze987). Some really large interesting pieces w/red & purple coralline. I'm cooking them right now while I get to installing those frp panels.

A little idea how large some of these pieces are.

I'm thinking of using cement pavers as a base for the aquascaping. Although, I think cinder blocks might be easier to drill into for rods and zip ties. Any thoughts ?

Hmmm... not sure how I'd feel about either of those. You might be able to use PVC or eggcrate as a base (that's kinda what I'm doing in my 220).

I had thrown around the idea of schedule 80 or chemgrate as a base, but the can get expensive. I saw Sanjay Joshi's interview on his 500 gallon reef he maintains at Penn State. He used cement pavers from Lowes and drilled rods into them to support the rock work...very cool. He said he didn't even have to cure them !

In that case, I don't see why not. My concern was going to be whether those pavers would leach anything (i.e. silicates, phosphates). I remember reading through Sangay's thread and now that you mention it I do remember that. I say go for it. Any ideas on what you wanna do with the aquascaping?

I would recommend soaking the rocks for a while, before putting it into your tank.
