Gimmito's 450 L-Shaped Display

what does this resins do to your water?

Basically, it's an alternative to RO/DI. The pluses w/the Kati Ani are it waste no water, regenerates easily and inexpensively per gallon (compared to costly filters and resins). Is used by well known aquarists such as Anthony Calfo and Steven Pro.

If you are interested, give John at www.readyaquatics.com a shout. He is the exclusive dealer for the Kati Ani and a great guy.

I would say it is the single best investment I've made in the hobby.

Update on the 40 gal fuge. I added 2" of Carib Sea Eco Complete Substrate and another couple bags of live sand (total of 5"). Scott Fellman recommended Gulf Coast Ecosystem for seagrass and I'm thinking of trying shoal grass (Halodule Wrightii) and some type of red macroalgae for contrast. Russ at GCE is great to work with an extremely knowledgable. I also picked up a slightly used Aquatic Life 4x39 HO T5 fixture and will use a mp10 for flow.

Great update Jim, would love to have the tank near you LOL :D

The fuge looks amazing!, where do you come with all those neat products for your tank? (Carib Sea Eco for example?) :D

I would invest on a dosing pump system for the FT and a Ca Reactor for the Main tank, GEO 818 for the big one all the way, the consume will be much higher in the DT than the FT. :)

Thanks for the compliments Juan,

I can't wait to stock it with sea grass and macro algae. As for the neat products, I bought the Carib Sea Eco complete from Pet Solution (Dr. Foster & Smith has a sale on them now). I bought the light on the for sale forum on RC. I'm actually quite happy with it (integrated timer for daylights, atinics, & LEDs for night viewing, German made parabolic reflectors, etc.).

I was thinking of a Geo 612 for the frag tank and contemplating between a Geo 818 or custom made Aqua C RX-1 for the main display.

I figure the FT will eventually be full and I'll need one eventually. :D
That's reassuring that yours is working out for you. Are you using ARM media ? What drip rate do you have it set to ? Has your ph dropped noticeably ? and if so, do you drip kalk ?

Jim,
These are some of my setting which is covering daily demand

Media: ARM Fine Coarse (I think, need to recheck with the container which type it is, but brand is ARM).
CO2 Bubble count: Approx 1.5 Bubbles per second
Effluent: 50ML per minute
PH range within reactor 6.5 - 6.8 (At 6.8 the solenoid fires up).
The PH is control with the Neptune Apex.

No drop in PH within the tank, it has maintained 8.25 - 8.27 since I connected my CA Reactor.

Alk 10.2 DKH
Ca: 400ppm (Will manually dose a little more to increase this number to 420ppm)
The above params have been the same over two weeks now.

What I like using the Apex with the reactor is that if I need to increase dosage, the only thing I need to play with right now is the PH range in the reactor.

For example,
If Alk is too high in the tank, I extend the range, from (6.5 - 6.8) to (6.5 - 6.9)
If Alk is too low in the tank, I reduce the range from (6.5 - 6.8) to (6.5 - 6.7)

So at the end I play with the controller before going manual on the CO2 valve and Effluent, pretty cool.

Sounds like you have pretty good numbers Juan. I do like the fact you can play with the controller to extend the range before manually touching the reactor. Since you don't have a lot of colonies (yet), thus not having to drive the reactor harder will you consider dripping kalk later ?

When I understand how it works I can sure try doing so, truth is I haven't read anything about it, where would be a good source to study this?

Hey Jim - How long have you been the kati ani resins? How often (gallons? time?) between recharges? Checked out the link but since the site is under construction would be good to know a little more before yanking John's chain.

Hey Tony,

I've had the Kati Ani resins for about 6 months now and I just did my first regeneration of the resins. I got about 2,000+ gallons before the TDS readings were getting around 10. The regeneration was pretty straight forward. The model 5 uses 3/4 gallon of muriatic acid mixed w/4 gallons of tap water and dripped for about 30-45 minutes, let stand for 15 minutes, & flush about 2 1/2-3 gallons and you are ready to go. The same applies for the Ani resins, except you are using 1 3/4 cup of sodium hydroxide.
John at Ready Aquatics gives exceptional service. He made the carboy for me and even bought the tubing and fittings for the Kati Ani. He also has a concierge service, where you can access the advice of (none other than) Anthony Calfo ! I have no doubt he will do
well once his business is opened this fall.

Ed at Aquarium Currents updated the motors for my Sea Swirls. It's capable if much more flow now and is whisper quite. Ed also sent me some 1 1/4" couplers that enables the Sea Swirls to sit lower in the water without the need of loclines.

Thanks Jim!

Your welcome Tony. You aren't too far from me, you can always checkout the Kati Ani in person. Do you belong to BAR (Bay Area Reefers) ?
