Just moved in with my girl! We just got the whole house cleaned except for my 125g. She said we are getting that set up so that there is no more stuff laying around!!!! Well the problem is my RO/DI system i need an adapter for her facets and well i dont have one yet! Right now the tank is FOWLR. Can i just use facet water with something i add to it to make it decent water for now? and then just do WC with my RO/DI system? IDK the TDS of the water or anything like that sorry

You're better off getting the adapater, it can't be more than a few dollars. I would not set up the tank with tap water, regardless of what additive you threw in there.

well either way i am going to get it. but if i get it now i still wont be able to set the tank up now like she wants. and she just informed me we have ppl coming over tom. sooo i kinda need water in it like now. lol

all the water changes will be with the ro/di water so i mean by the time i get corals (a long time) all the water will be RO/DI water and i got about 30ish gallons of RO.di water too that will be going in obviously

Even if you get the adapter and you have a 75 GPD RO/DI it's gonna take two days to fill a 125.

And that's if you live somewhere warm.

This is what you'll really need.

whether you fill it with RODI or tap water, it will only be a tank full of water by tomorrow, it wont have cycled, you can't have anything in it............ so not much point

so yeah go ahead and fill it with tap water, then when the guest leave drain it and do it right. it's a waste of water but if the girlfriend can't wait????????????

It might be a good time to explain to the girlfriend that patience is a key element to conducting this hobby successfully. Rushing the process now will provide countless, expensive headaches later.

Since I don't have an ro/di water maker, when I moved back in my house with a 45 gal and a 55 gal I reset both tanks with distilled water purchased at Wal-Mart.

Yes, it took a couple of trips to get enough, but it did the job.

Tap water with treatment and ro water bought from the vending machines gave me nothing but grief, in spite of water changes with good stuff.

benak,

I think you've been "hazed" a bit with that product suggestion. The product he's showing you is "patience". :)

If you need water, go find some Crystal Springs purified water. Don't use their SPRING water though. The purified water is RO/DI. It'll cost you some money though...in fact, probably more than a new RO/DI unit would.

If you can't find an adapter that works, get a Y connector and separate off the cold line of the washing machine. Feed the wastewater into the drain or the washing machine. Works fine. Brass Y ok on pre-ro/di connection; copper will be removed along with other contaminants.

using tap is a major pita later on as you will be unable to beat algae without expensive add-ons, because of phosphate in tapwater.

I agree with aquaman67 on the Chelated Patience. I think you need to open up a 55gal drum.

Dude, You need to grow a pair.
Your GF's company can come over and awww at the empty tank. This is not something your going to want to rush into. You think you can just throw sand, rock, fish and water in a tank and it's all going to be nice and pretty tomorrow when company comes over.
It's going to look 10x worse tomorrow then it does today. You might want to explain that to the GF.

I would go to my lfs and see if they will sell you water. I know some around here sell ro/di for like 50 cents a gal. If not looks like you will have to buy distilled from wal mart. There is always the slim chance some of your fellow reefers in your area can spare 10-15 gal. Good luck but remember to move slow

You could get one of those aquarium backgrounds and put it on the inside glass so it doesn't look so empty. On a side note if your GF is making such a fuss over a glass box, what is going to happen when a real problem arises.

Ok you guys are not listening! I have had this tank set up! Its cured live rock! I just wanna know what to add to tap water to make it good enough for the chromis! Then once I start geting ro di water I will change water everyday for a week prolly so I know that its rodi water in there! So what do I add to tap water to make it good! I have a fuge with calupera. So it will help with the algae

benak, I think your question is confusing. Do you have water in there now? Where are the chromis? Are you just needing to clean the tank and do a water change? What specifically is your current situation, and what does your GF desire?

if you already have your mind made up why do you even bother posting? happy algae farming.

i agree 100%

even with cured rock and a fuge it will take longer than she will let you. hell, IMO it takes 24 hrs to properly mix SW. i hope your company likes a half arsed looking tank for a while because you two couldnt wait.
