Giving my clown a buddy.

Awkward

New member
So about 2 months ago I introduced a pair (non mated) of small black clown fish in my 10 gallon. Bothof the ended up being diseased, and one died. The other is doing great and has been for a while. I just moved him to a 20 gallon and want to get him a buddy. Can I introduce a false perc to him? Should it be smaller or bigger? Any success doing this?

Im guessing what you have now is a standard b&w occ. If you intoduce a new clown make sure it is the smallest you can find.

Also did you treat your other clown for the deisese that it had? If not i would treat that first before adding any new fish.

The clown I have now is a Darwin clown. I have not treated this clown because the white feces has went away for a month now. At first he would not eat so treating the internal parasite was nearly impossible based upon all of the research I did. I will look into doing some sort of precautionary treatment before adding new fish if I can find something safe to treat him even if there is nothing. My LFS (not the store I got the clowns from) said that he should be able to kick the parasite on his own if I could get him to eat. I'm really hoping this is true. He (she?) has been eating like a hog for a while now, but is still picky when it comes to eating anything but pellet and brine shrimp. The brine I only use as a treat though as I understand the lack of nutrition in them.

Any suggestions for treating him in my DT? Having a QT is not really an option for me at the moment unfortunately.

Why not get a matching B&W clown?

If that is the only thing he will pair with then I will go that route, but I was hoping to add some more variety to the tank via an orange colored clown as my 20 gallon setup has such limited stocking levels. Unfortunately he is all alone in the tank so I cannot really get a feel for his temperament towards other fish.

Hi,

Your Black clownfish is an ocellaris clownfish. You can pair him up with an orange ocellaris if you would like with no problems. You can even pair him up with designer ocellaris such as snowflakes if you want for more variety, but stick to a pair. All the same species.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. I will update when I find the right one.
