Gladys, my latz :)

Well its been a long time coming and I found one. This is her second day in my tank at "sunset".. got home in time to snap some quick video before the lights went out.

She sleeps in her BTA hiding on the other side of the tank (of course it goes where you have to walk around the back to look at it!)

I am in fish-love :)

I know there are a lot of folks out there who see latz with dollar signs in their eyes or even good intention on breeding them but she's going to stay single for a while (maybe work on her career, find some investment firms) and eventually when I get my 125g up and running I'll hook her up with a frisky male just so she won't be lonely.. but there's something about the attitude and personality of this clown that makes me love them for who they are - not what they potentially could reproduce.

I'm not trying to knock on you aquaculturists- I'd applaud a successful captive breeding program, but I am really trying to profess my profound feelings for this species of fish. They just have that special "somethin something" that gets to me. I don't know what but I am one happy fish-mom right now!

Looks great! They are really cool fish.

My only regret when I got my two is that I didn't just get the pair. I hate to see skirmishes, but so far it's been far less abusive than I had feared.

They're still not in the anemones together unless I put my hands in the tank, but the aggression seems to be declining.

Good luck!!

From Bluezooaquatics.com. I think they are an RC sponsor here but I delt with Mark Martin there and he was absolutely fantastic to deal with. He spent a lot of time on the phone and doing email work to answer a lot of my questions.

One of my things is that I work at an LFS and I wanted to make sure I got one from a place that would be putting a lot of care into their fish (despite being hard to find!) the same way I do at work and I think it was one of those meant to be scenarios. Their prices were slightly high compared to other places I have seen them for sale at but they have very very good quarantine facilities, treat with copper methyl blue.. a medication for flukes that I always forget the name of.. I was able to ask questions I think some of the typical hobbyist usually wouldn't and he was still extremely helpful.

She came exactly on time through fedex and I had to sign for her so I camped out at my door to make sure they didn't do the leave-a-note-and-run (its my neighborhood they can be in a hurry).. She came with their acclimation package that was pretty cute and cool at the same time with some more blue to dose as she acclimates.

They may still have one or two females left if you look on page 2 of their clowns- but make sure you do a slow acclimation. Their SG was really low. I noticed as I was dripping her I could see that swirly mixing of salt into less salty water. I had to bring her up slowly from around 1.021 to 1.025

I though I maybe saw a mark or two on her when she first was in my tank but she looks spotless now I think a lot of it was stress. She shipped in a lot of water and a cooler where the water was still pretty cool when I unpacked her. She didn't like it but is doing great so soon in the tank.

I could've gotten a pair but it wasn't in my budget nor tank size- I only have a 55g right now and its just.. I couldn't do that to fish that get so huge and quite possibly territorial

I have no doubt I"ll be able to pair her later. A local person I talk to often has a few pairs and he uses a breeding cup or otherwise separate container to keep the male in for the female to check him out.. he was able to introduce one with little to no aggression and they've paired right up.

a little bit of skill and a little bit of luck I guess :)

They could have been. I know some places do keep their salinity around 1.019 give or take where its not too low for the fish to be harmed but potentially low enough to stave off anything that may hatch from eggs or otherwise.

There's quite a debate of whether or not this works or if a real and true hypo treatment is the only thing that works.. it just kind of depends on a case by case basis.

When I ordered mine from Blue Zoo, I asked the conditions they were kept at. I believe the salinity was 1.019. They do also do a FW dip or Methyene blue, and the latz were kept in copper as a preventative.

I just acclimated a little slower than usual for me and things went well.

They are very knowledgeable and great to deal with.

From everything I have heard and seen and understood from previous owners if you can get them in the juvenile stages they adapt to reef temperatures a lot better.

Here in florida its hard to keep a tank under 80 degrees (82 in the summer time) but we just got our first cold front it feels like in Orlando so my tanks are going to be happy.

With some fans and notching the A\C down I've got mine in 79-80 degrees and fairly stable. I suspect I can do 78 easily once the cooler weather gets here. I may consider investing in a chiller next summer but will have time to save for one over the coming seasons

It's a 55g tank, I think for 1 it should be enough room and she's hosting. Within a year I'm upgrading to my 125g (just need to graduate college and get a salary before I can actually set it up)

She seems to be fine so far but I will be watching for signs that the tank may be too small. She's 3inches or so and I know she can nearly double that but I am hoping to get going on that bigger tank as soon as I graduate in the spring

I have three myself. Looking for another juvie. From what i can see in the video, yours looks very healthy and happy!
Congrats!
