Glass Center Brace...

200gallon

All right guy's, I got a question for you.I recently (3 month's) bought a older Oceanic 215 gallon tank. The measurements are 84" L x 24" W x 24 1/4" H. and it has a two foot glass brace in the middle. The women I purchased it from had it for six years. She ran VHO lights until about four months before I got it. Then she switched to three 400 watt metal halide. So my question is do you think with the tank being this old the the center brace can with stand the heat from the halide or not. They where only about six inches above the top of the tank but now they are like eleven inches. I am worried about the silicone being old and giving way and the tank cracking or something like that. What do you all think.... Thanks.

oceanic is a good company.... tanks should last for years provided they are leveled right when they are installed... if all was done correctly then i think you will have nothing to worry about.

Right, that's what I was thinking, but given the math I think the tank is around 7-10 years old already. How much longer do you think the tank has. Years to come is what I was thinking, I hope!!!!

does the silicone feel hard or soft? how does it look? i have a 180 that the silicone looks like crap, i filled the tank up outside just to make sure it would hold water..... it did just fine. i now use it for a sump and it only gets filled up about half way....

i would not worry to much about it unless the silicone is looking thin or is coming up in spots.... just my opinion. have you thought about putting new silicone in?
