50/50 Vinegar/RODI in a spray bottle
you can use whatever cleaner you want if you saturate a paper towel with the cleaner away from the tank, use that saturated towel to apply the cleaner to the glass then use a dry paper towel to clean the glass. I would never spay anything anywhere near the tank for fear of contaminating the water....

I used Windex for years without issue, but I like to think I'm smart enough to not spray it into the tank. Then I discovered Invisible Glass. It and a few paper towels leaves the glass spotless with minimal effort. And yes, I still don't spray it into the tank. I point the nozzle at a downward angle to spray the glass and then use just enough to get the job done.

I just use vinegar and water mixture and it works well.

i've used windex for years with no issues. the only real problem with it is that it streaks salt like crazy. so i usually wipe down with some RODI water to get up the salt creep, then dry towel, then spray the windex on to the paper towel, facing away from the tank. wipe down, and sometimes i hit it with another dry paper towel, just to clean up any streaks left behind.
that is, of course, when my lazy butt actually bothers to clean the glass.
