Glass Cutting

Can anyone suggest a place with reasonable prices that will cut glass for you for sump baffles? The closer to Monroeville, the better, but really anywhere within easy driving distance will do.

Thanks very much!

How big of a sump are you doing? Lowes only cuts 1/8" thick glass which is very flimsy and easily broken. Any local glass shop can cut you baffles for about 6-8 bucks a piece in 1/4" with polished edges, just look in the phone book under glass and mirror.

i never had an issue with the 1/8 inch glass with my sumps one was a 30 gallon breeder and the other my current sump is a 40 gallon breeder. 1/4 would be nice if you plan on having alot of lr in your sump encase you were to bump the glass with a rock of something. my set up is simple water goes from skimmer to fuge threw bubble trap and to the return so 1/8 worked for me.
good luck with the sump build

I think I'm going to go with a 30g long tank for the sump. It's going in a stand for a 75g, and anything longer than 36" tends to be 48", which won't fit in the stand.

I was planning to try and use 1/4" glass. Ace will cut 1/4" for you?

I went to Rusch Glass in the South Hills. A few of the pieces that I got were about 1/16" too wide and they replaced at no charge. Very good service!

Otherwise, the best suggestion I could give would be to head over to Google Maps and search for glass businesses around your address and start calling around.

API stores can order you cut glass. Automotive stores. That's what i have done.

I would not go with the 1/8" glass when you can get 1/4".

Thanks, all. I found a place in MeKeesport who will cut 1/4 inch glass. The four panes, cut to my specifications, will run me $30, so I think I'll use them.

Thanks again!
