glass over tank?

Question for you lighting experts and advice. I currently have the glass tops over my 180G setup (using 4 72" VHO's). I only have 4 corals (1 star polyp that is not doing well). Will removing the glass have a better effect on the corals? I am mostly concerned about too much evaporation and the occaisional jumper.

Here's what my lights look like now:

What do you think?

i would take the glass off, glass natural filters out some of the light plus salt and water droplets get on the glass and block out some of the light as well.

so right now, I add about 6-7 gal of top off per week to my tank and that with the glass on! will this get worse?

thanks in advance guys

2 to 3 gal a day.

That sounds about right. Ditch the glass. Egg Crate works great for air exchange and keeping fish in.

Daytripper and I have 750W of halide over our tanks. You probably won't see as much evap as us since you only have 4 vho's. So probably less than 2-3G per day but how much nobody knows.

thanks guys, now that I have my RODI system up an running, this will be easier to do as well.

It is going to get worse but it will be beneficial for your tank. You may want to consider if you haven't already a top off tank and a auto top off system like the Tunze Osmolator.

Good luck!
