In Essence of glass I opted with this shot, being glass as in glasses. It's one if my favorite pics I have taken so I'm gonna use it this time.

I should prolly explain this :p

The subject is this glass ball...

In a dark room with a flashlight on the glass ball. Camera on tripod. The method is called a "zoom burst". While the shutter is open, zoom the telephoto lens. Voila!
Anyway, I thought it looked like a firework... with it being the 4th and all  ;)

I was going to pick your photo before your explanation of what exactly it was, but now it seems that much cooler. Very nice work, and the next topic's yours.

Whoohoo! Thanks for the vote Nick :)

Zoom burst is a fun and easy project. I'll have to play with it more. Here were a couple tests I made on my way to the photo with the glass ball.

This is just a random spot inside my house.

And this is just a photo of my son hanging on the wall.

How bout this for the next subject... Architecture. :)

The ball was 1.6 sec. The staircase, 1.3 and the portrait 2.5 sec. If you are on a nice solid tripod, just keep the camera as still as possible and just spin the lens with your hand to zoom it. It can really help to have a remote shutter release.

I'm going to drive my wife nuts while trying this around the house. Who knows, maybe I'll get a shot of her turning into Hulk...

A while back, I was playing around with one of those tiki torches - and came up with this.

I wouldn't suggest drinking it...
