Glass shop for overflows

Who does everyone like to use?

I am in the Yaphank/Manorville area and I need some 1/4" glass for a coast to coast in my 40 Breeder.

I went to a glass shop in Rocky Point.
North side of the street as you get into the town just past the by-pass split.
Get it 1/8" smaller in width.

I've used hildreth's glass many times for various projects. They've been there for over 20 years. They are on the Port Jeff, Mt. Sinai border north of 25A on crystal brook hollow road. Might be listed as hildreth's auto glass. Not sure if they will actually silicone a box together for you but they have always cut whatever I asked for.
Are you installing the box inside or outside of the tank? If you're going inside, I recommend using black acrylic instead. Clear glass on the inside will end up acting like a algae scrubber.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I don't need anyone to silicone the box together for me. I just need two pieces to make an "L" for the back of the tank. I was planning on using smoked glass to help it blend into the background.

I have heard very mixed things about using acrylic for an overflow in a glass tank. I have read many people have had great luck while others it comes apart. I just wanted to use glass because it seems like a safe bet.

Okay, so you are putting it on the inside. That makes things easy. Acrylic is fine if you make a one piece L. Run the bead of silicone on the outside of the box and it will hold no problem. Let the silicone do the work for you. Use it like a shelf so to speak. I used 31" tall one piece U shaped towers to cover glass overflows on a 230gl tank. They didn't budge. There are plenty of videos on you tube that show how to bend acrylic or you can buy one pre made off the internet. You don't need heavy gauge material either, 3/16 will work. You can silicone a brace inside the center of the box if you don't think it feels stable enough. Personally It scares the s**t out of me to use heavy glass hanging high inside a tank. I know it will stick but in the back of my mind I always have the worry of it falling and shattering the bottom of the tank or hitting it with a rock while aquascaping. I don't even like to use glass baffles in a sump either. Never have. Silicone is your friend. Just be creative with it and it will work acrylic. Good luck with whatever you use.

You may want to make it out of glass then put black acrylic over it. Then you can cut a strainer into the acrylic. Thats what the aquarium makers do.
