Started my new tank in the garage not too long ago. Lost my mancave room to my new born son so I am moving my music studio and fish hobby in one side of the garage. Equipment specs to follow.

Unfortunately the tank will stay in the garage because I really do not have space for it or at least where I can compromise with my wife. Half of my garage will be converted to my music recording room and fish hobby. My drum set along with other music equipment will occupy half the space. I also have a couch and a coffee table to go with it. The stand table is extended 6" to provide space for a bar. I will have bar stools around the tank.

I have completed the plumbing, tested for leaks (there were some), fixed the leak and is currently filling the system with rodi water. My rodi is only 50 gallons per day so I am looking at next sunday to get this running. So far I installed the rock wall using greatstuff, egg crate and live rock rubble and I changed my overflow to pvc drilled with holes on top.

My lfs suggested that a reef bar is the way to go:bounce3:

Light rack installed

Light rack installed

I spent the 3 day weekend building my light rack and I finally got it up without any help. It was worth it. I decided to go this route for my lighting:

3 lumenarc III pendants with 400watt radiums on eballast
T5 retrofit on the sides with ati blue+
4 odyssea LED moonlight strips

I ordered 400 pounds of live rock from my lfs and it is ready for my pickup. I will put in salt and the rock at the end of this month (payday). Here is my 150 gallon which shows the same exact rock that I ordered. This 150 gallon will be my softies/lps tank. I am basically keeping 2 large tanks - a softies/lps and a stony coral tank. I am also plumbing a 5 foot frag tank with my 300.

All of my corals are currently in a 40 breeder waiting for my tanks to get established.

Where abouts in Sacramento are you? Would love to check out your closed loop system. My tank is the dementions and I am trying to figure out how to do a closed loop system on mine.

I am in natomas. My closed loop is just 3 holes in the bottom of the tank in a straight line. The middle hole is 2" and the other 2 holes are the 1 1/2" returns. The pumps are in the middle of the tank closest to the holes.

I really want to get the vertex alpha cone 300 skimmer but I was told they are not available until next month. Can anybody confirm this? I have a spare aquac remora but I don't think it is enough to handle the rock curing. The rocks are definitely coming home next week.

Light rack progress and under the stand

Light rack progress and under the stand

I made some progress with the light rack today. I was able to get a deal with 4 used t5 fixtures from yourreef. The rack now have t5s, LED moonlight and fans. I have decided on the 22" lumenmax reflector but is still waiting for it to come back. I was told that this reflector was discontinued but now in production due to demand.

I transferred some of my old rock from the display to the 50 gallon refugium. My dsb is now on the 20 gallon long. I also added a small ball of chaeto that I took from my other tank. My refugium is being lit by 4 10000k t5 bulbs.

Time to bring back this thread to life. I purchased a new house in Roseville Ca in October 2011 and I decided to set up just one system. I basically plumbed together all of my existing tanks and placed it in the living room opposite the dining room. I am currently running approximately 800 gallons of water. Some teaser pictures....

System Breakdown
300 gallon envision main display 96"x30"x24"high
120 gallon main sump 48"x24"x24"high - holds the skimmer, heater and ozone reactor
34 gallon oceanic cube refugium - holds chaeto and caulerpa
20 gallon long - holds the 2nd skimmer
45 gallon long - just to add water volume
Frag tank - 72"x24"x12"
150 gallon 60"x24"x24" - cryptic refugium - holds nothing but boulders of pukani rock. These are the rocks shown previously in the 300 gallon tank.
40 gallon ro/di - for autotop off
25 gallon ro/di - for kalk dosing

I had 3 powdercoated steel stands custom made for this setup

Lighting
Main display: 4 x 400watt radiums mh on lumatek ballast on 22" lumenmax reflector, 8 x 54watt T5 supplemental lighting, 4 x 110watt vho superactinic
Frag tank: 3 x 250watt radiums on galaxy ballast on lumenmax elite reflector, 4 x 80watt T5 ati blue plus supplemental
Refugium: 1 x 250watt DE phoenix fishneedit pendant

Circulation Main Display:
Reeflo dart return - circulates water to the display, frag tank, refugium and cryptic tank
Reeflo hammerhead closed loop - circulates water inside the rock display and on top away from the overflow
Reeflo snapper closed loop - feeds water to the chiller
3 Vortech MP-60es controlled by the WXM Apex Controller
On BACKORDER!: 2 tunze 6255s that I ordered over a month ago that has yet to arrive. Definitely sucks.

Circulation Frag Tank:
4 modded tunze 6025s
1 Vortech MP-40es controlled by the WXM Apex Controller
Temp regulation
2 x 800watt jalli titanium heaters on jalli controller
1 hp chiller

Skimmer filtration
Reef octopus xp-5000 cone skimmer on the 120 gallon sump that drain on the side of my house
Reef octopus xp-3000 cone skimmer on the 20 gallon long sump that also drain on the side of my house

Dosing
2 Knop S IV Calcium Reactors piggybacked together using a pacific coast regulator and 20 lb CO2 tank. The Ca Rx is fed from the return pump and the effluent enters the 45gallon sump. I use the avast marine probe/effluent hose holder.
1 avast marine Kalk reactor feed using a separate 25 gallon ro/di container. The kalk doses hourly using the OSC function in the Apex Controller with a bulk reef supply topoff doser.

Media filtration
2 next reef monster reactors - one with gfo, the other with carbon. My return pump has multiple manifolds. One of the manifold feeds the avast marine ozone reactor and then enters the carbon reactor. I use an ozotech 200mg generator with a coralife luft pump. Ozone is dosed 2 hours from 1am to 3am.

Autotopoff
Avast marine ato with a aqualifter pump with a 40gallon ro/di reservoir

Carbon dosing
25ml of vodka dosed only after every water change

Controller
Apex with an EB8 and EB4, 2 ph probes one measuring ph of the Ca Rx and the other measuring ph of the tank

RO/DI
I have a 120 gallon green storage tank in the side of my house hooked to a panworld pump which pumps water inside the house. I use an air water ice typhoon III RO/DI unit

Tank is fed the following:
Ocean Nutrition Flake Food - multiple times a day
Oyster Feast, Brine Shrimp, Mysis Shrimp, Elos Amino Acid mixed together

This is all I can remember for now. More pictures to follow.

This is the picture of the tank when it was first set up in the space. It was the first tank to get in since the steel stands were built in separate periods.

Here is where the other steel stands were placed. I have a U shaped workcenter. The middle tank holds nothing but boulders of pukani rock. The right is my frag tank, ca rx, etc. This was the early stage of the build so some changes were made eventually.

The 34 gallon oceanic display that I had during my nano reef days eventually became my refugium. It holds enough chaeto to fill the space with caulerpa. It is lit by a fishneedit 250 watt metal halide pendant fixture with a phoenix 14k bulb. The chaeto is trimmed twice a month and the trimmings go to my lfs. The refugium is lit in a reverse photoperiod from 10pm at night to 3pm the next day.

Here is where the canopy was put in. t5s and metal halide. I eventually added vho super actinic to make everything pop.
