Goatfish

They get big, need lots of open sand space. They often arrive with internal parasites and need to be treated for them. They also do best with other goatfish as they are social.

That sucks that hey won't school togeather. Why will they be a bad choice for my 75 gallon tank. The largest one on record was only 10 inches.

What is a good fish similar in behavior and looks to a goatfish? I want something colorful and unique looking.

Breams such as Scolopsis bilineatus and Pentapodus emeryii are interesting and relatively hardy fish that aren't at all common in tanks. They get some size, but don't get huge. They're diligent when it comes to stirring up the sand bed (as long as you don't mind a "dead" sand bed), so in that respect they are similar to goatfish, but much better suited to aquariums. Good luck and take a look at the breams :spin1:

Not so similar in behavior, but a cuban hogfish (Bodianus pulchellus) has the same color scheme of a bicolor goatfish.

Best regards.

Daniel.
