Excellent. I will be doing that. I will only be having two clowns, cleaner shrimp, and maybe two other small fish.

I heard sand sifting gobys can sometimes starve in small tanks because their isn't enough food in the substrate. Also, I have a bit of hair algae in my sand starting to grow. Will the goby clean it up?

It depends on the type of goby that you want.

Best would be a sandsifter that also eats pellet: the yellow watchman is good at both.

One thing to avoid, the so-called Mandarin Goby, which is not a goby, but a dragonet, which requires a mature fuge support system and at least a 50 gallon tank.

I have a Yellow Watchman Goby/Pistol Shrimp combo and they are a hoot to watch. I've had them for about two years and the goby is still pretty small. Every couple of months they move to a new area of the tank, very entertaining guys.

Gobies are great for smaller tanks. Keep in mind I wouldn't get a sand shiter if I had crushed coral for my tank.

For recommendation, a fire fish, red white goby is great and less expensive, usually under $20.
