Does anyone have advice on how I can get them to pair up? They were paired at the LFS, but now the goby stays toward the top and the shrimp does his digging.....will they eventually pair up again? Anything I can do?
They should find each other again. Make sure your rock is on the glass so it doesn't shift. That pistol will dig all over the place And they don't take too kindly to small hermits roaming by it's lair... a little amusing to watch, but right out of a horror flick for the hermit.
When we got ours, the goby hid in the rocks while the shrimp dug the tunnel system, then the goby joined him in the tunnels. Every once in a while, the goby wanders around like he's lost, then we discover the shrimp digging some more & the goby goes in soon after. How long has it been?
MY YWG used to live my my Randall's shrimp but it's like he got kicked out or something cause he's on opposite side of tank now days. I just noticed today that 2 of my zebra dartfish now live with the pistol... :uhoh3:
I like your name Beefy It's been about two weeks and the tank they are in is definitely larger than at the LFS - the store's tank was probably a ten gallon or so and I have a 54 gallon.
I hope I don't see any carnage with my hermits. I'll tell you the pistol "pop" sure is loud! I haven't seen him much but I know he's ok by hearing the regular pop noise. I hope they find each other again!!
I didn't buy my shrimp/goby combo together. I had the goby first and added the shrimp later. It was a 135 gal at the time. I also got impatient as the gobi had its territory on one side and the shrimps home was on the other. I just chased the goby over to the other side of the tank and they found eachother. After that when I downsized they've been together from the word go.
