goby question

I`m my guy who won the Sleeper goby at Friday`s meeting. As soon as I put him in my other fish didn`t like him at all. I thought they were just checking him out, but that`s not the case. My yellow tang nipped at him and one of my B/W clowns bit down onto his tail and didn`t let go until I flicked the glass. He dug a little cave under a rock and has been there ever since. My tang patrols the opening every few seconds. I see him sticking his head out, but then the tang comes by and chases him in. What do you think I should do about this? My kids were really excited to win him and I`d hate to see him die under the rock.

Thanks, Dave

What size tank are they in? Its not uncommon for territorial disputes to happen when a new fish is added. Usually they calm down in a few days. However, if the tank is not big enough or there is not a sufficient amount of hiding spots for each fish to escape the view of the others, you could run into trouble.

I had that happen to sleeper a couple years ago with a purple tang. It lasted about 3 days and he left him alone after re realized he wasn't a threat.

I've had Tangs (especially Yellow) do that to new fish also, and after a few days everything was ok.
If it's still a problem and you have a QT, remove the Tang for a couple of weeks to let the new guy settle in - that's also worked for me.

I have a very territorial clown he always is a tank bully i just move a few rocks around and it gives him somthing else to be pist off at and he forgets all about the new guy!!!!!theres always a tank bully !!!

I think you were right about the territory. I rearranged my rock and it changed were my Tang slept. The goby came out yesterday and is doing well. Thanks for the info.

Tang's just trying to live his life, man. It's a rough and tumble world and someone's got to bring some law and order to it. :)
