Going, Going, Gone!

I'm sorry to hear that Allen. I just got in a very rare colored torch. It's purple with yellow tips. Hands down the best torch that I have ever seen. it has 5 heads but 1 looks like it is going to split 2 ways and 2 look like they will split 3 ways. I got in a lot of nice zoas as well. My favorite would be the Bam Bams.

Unfortunately, I still haven't bought a new digicam yet. It's getting really annoying without a camera. I'm leaning towards the new Canon SD850IS.

This was not taken by me but here is a pic of the torch. The tips look white in the photo. I was told they were yellow. I actually think they are somewhere in between.

Very nice color on that one. I don't recall seeing one that color either. Where did the colony come from?

I got from mrcoral.com, it was a one of a kind piece. It was put up the same day I bought it. I just hope it does well. Do you think it would lose color under my 10k halides? I know visually, they drown the color out of everything.

10k is closer to more natural lighting so you stand a better chance of it staying that color. I bet they do stand out sitting in your average aquarium.

A 10K MH bulb without a "stong" actinic supplement, the color of corals can look very washed out.

My 70W 10K Ushio MH bulb was very crisp white looking (not yellow at all), but I only had 55W PC actinic bulb with it, and all the corals looked washed out. Blue mushrooms came out blue and not purple, and yellow polyps were looking bright yellow, but all the other colors did not look pretty to me. I bet that the colors would have looked very nice under the same bulb if I had another actinic PC or VHO bulb with it. I feel that PC actinic bulbs do not bring out colors like VHO acinic bulbs can, though.

The 10k bulbs came stock with system I bought. I hear many people giving good reviews on the 250w 14k DE Phoenix bulbs. Until recently I used a 20k MH bulb on my 29 gallon. I think whenever I do change bulbs on my new system I will go for a 14-15k bulb. At least in that way I can have a good combination of growth and coloration. I think Sanjay said that Radium bulbs give the best PAR among current bulbs.

I like my 250W 14K Phoenix bulb very much. The only thing I miss is the dawn and dusk effect that I used to have with actinic bulbs.

What is the color like on your Phoenix bulbs? I love my new lighting system. I have them on a timer strip so I get a nice dawn and dusk effect. Surprisingly the moonlight LED's light up the whole tank at night. I had to buy an additional Moonlight strip for my 29 gallon's system.

Colors are great under 14K Phoenix bulbs. I don't need any actinic supplement. Fluorescent green color becomes very vivid. XM 20K show off the colors of my blue eye cardinals a bit more, though.

If that torch has that kind of color under 10k's, you have a fantastic specimen. Almost any coral can look good under extreme blue lights like 20k's. Nice find.

As for cameras, the Panasonic Lumix cameras are very nice, have great glass, are cheaper than their comparable cousins and you won't find a better optical zoom. If they are out of your price range, a gently used one might be an option. (And no, I'm not selling mine!)

The picture was taken by the place I purchased the torch from. I would imagine that they would be using 14 or 20k bulbs. The purple color looks more muted under my 10k's. I still love it as I have never seen that color morph before.

Thank you for the advise on the digicam but I am a Canon enthusiast. My current plan is to buy the new Canon SD850IS (excellent pic quality, image stabilization, special aquarium mode) and then later on I will probably get a Rebel XTi.

I have some zoanthids that I want to submit to zoaid.com. I have not seen them anywhere else before. They have a dark green circle in the center and the rest of it is pure black. I want to call them Black Jade if a name does not already exist.
