My current system of 1100 gallons has been running almost 9 years. I've become a bit bored with it and am looking at making some major changes. My current idea is to convert the cube tank to an acropora tank utilizing LED lighting(shudder) and lower wattage pump for return (Red Dragon/Ecotech/other reliable submersible pumps). Also going to go with a lower wattage skimmer like a Reef Octopus by Coralvue.

Reducing my electricity bill is necessary as I'm trying to make it more affordable long term. I'll be starting a selling thread eventually for the equipment I currently have. I'll also be looking to sell all of my giant leathers, gorgonians and many fish. I'll use the 300 gallon stock tank for re homing while I revamp the cube tank with new sump, skimmer and plumbing.

The long tank is going to be an African Cichlid tank, probably Lake Tanganyika, but up for debate.

How do you feel about a planted tank in the long tank? I think you could make that a beautiful display and it would be interesting. Tanganycan tanks are great but a little boring for me.

That will be one big slice of Lake Tanganyika.

Nah, just a little chunk.

Too much work. Trying to simplify in my old age;) You got a PM too:D

You'll end up doing cichlids from all lakes,my personal favorite is the Frontosas

You're probably right. Compressiceps I think is one I really like too.

I am just having trouble finding any softies besides your typical common stuff. Not a lot of people collecting them.... makes it hard to have a softies dom. Tank.

If youve never checked out Malawi Aquatics on West Florissant, make sure you do when you start stocking fish...great selection of african chilids

I've often shuddered when I try to imagine the monthly expenses (electricity being only one) you must incur with this "hobby".
Don't you have third tank (Acro dominant) also? If so, what are your plans for it?

I "think" the 120 SPS tank will help stock the big cube tank. Then I plan on making it a refugium for the 470 gallon SPS tank.

The long tank (375 gallon), I "think" is going to be an Anemone dominated tank, modeling off Minh's tank. I'm planning on switching to all LED lights over time.

First, I need to sell the livestock off, then buy some stuff, then start the new builds.

Definitely an expensive hobby!

I don't know if they fall under your Lake Tanganyika list but I know someone trying to get rid of some convicts. not sure exactly what she has, but they would be cheap if not free.

she never intended on breeding them and now has 3-4 breeding pairs...

Ill ask her if your interested

You're right! I'm going to go Anemone dominated in the 375g tank.
