So I saw some threads that you shouldnt put a tank this size or any one on carpet.

The only option I have is to put it on carpet in my basement, is this going to be safe and if not is there any way I can make it safe?

It will be a regular 180 gallon tank with a wooden stand.

You can, as long as it's level and make sure you don't place the stand on the tack strips along the wall that held the carpet.
However, there are several reasons that I don't recommended put it on top of the carpet.
-Salt creeps or spill would ruin the carpet.
-Should unfortunate accident such as overflow or flooded basement, you can't remove the carpet without dismantle and move the tank.

**If you're handy, if not hire a carpet installer to do this**
If possible, I highly recommend pull out the carpet along the wall just enough for the dept of the tank. Place the stand on the padding (if there any) and cut out the padding along the tank stand (cut out about 1-1.5" along the stand). remove padding that you cut out. Place the stand and tank into the cut out area. Level the stand/tank. Install carpet strips (if concrete use "concrete carpet strip) along the stand leave a 1/4" gap from the stand to tuck the carpet in. Cut the carpet along your stand, leaving 1/4" extra carpet (so you can tuck the carpet in between the strips and the stand).

Only problem is this will be going into my parents house for around 1 year till I get my own place so cutting carpet isnt an option, only 24. There are other places where I could place the tank in the basement but my parents want it next to the tv as thats where they think it would work best, but again that is on carpet.

What if I fill the tank half way, then make sure it is level and if not place shims under the tank to make it level? I already plan on putting a tarp down directly under the tank and placing one when I do the water changes so I am not worried about that part. And if there was an overflow or flood, no matter what the carpet would be completely screwed all around the tank so the little amount I cut out wouldnt make a difference.

You can place shims under the stand to level BUT NOT under the tank.

Depending on the type of carpet and padding. If it commercial type carpet (thin) it might not leave an imprint once the tank is removed. But if it's the regular residential type carpet it will leave the stand imprint on the carpet that might not go away due to the weight of the tank and the amount of time it sat on the carpet. So there is a greater chance you will need to replace the carpet for your parents :)

yeah I meant underneath the tank, my bad there haha

yeah it is pretty thick carpet. I was thinking out putting a tarp under it and i definitely will butim sure that wont help at all

You can always keep it there for your folks when you moved out. It will give you more reason to to visit often LOL!

hahahaha that's a good one. The tank would not be able to have the SPS etc that I will eventually be having in mine with them in charge
