Going with LEDs

I have decided to upgrade to LEDs for my 150 gallon reef tank. I missed the last meeting, and lost out on some good info.

Which box unit would you guys recommend?
How many would I need to light up a 72" long tank?
I am considering a unit with red/green LEDs does that really make much of a difference for coral growth or is it purely aesthetic?
Any units you guys recommend?

Thank you

I have 3 (10x10) fixtures ....250 watt apiece utilizing multichip sets........I have 1 green, 1 Red, 1 Actinic Hybird, 1 20K white, 1 Royal Blue chip on each fixture ......every chip is dimmable so you can mix and match any colors you would like .....my setup is 96x36x36 540 gal come see anytime

Matt, can you send pictures of the LED set up? I will be going LED in the future.

Aqua illumination Vega or Radions if you can afford it.

Depends on your pocket size.

That aside:

Im not convinced red is useful yet. You can add a neutral white or warm white to get some of the red/warm spectrum

Green- I like. Very crisp looking IMO

Vegas are not good for deep tanks. They work great for shallow reefs. The regular AIsols are the ones to get if your going that direction.

Anyone know anything about the Chinese LED's that are becomming popular now? Some of the local fish stores are starting to set them up on their displays. For the money they look fantastic.

we own the razors. for the money the are phenominal full spectrum and fully dontrollable pinpoint dimming on two channels. happy with them so far, but alibaba is great for the china made ones

I have no complaints with my Radion and have it set to 60% over my Midi. Its a great light and the controls on it are fantastic.

MaxSpect Razors are a great choice as well. They're definitely the thinnest and best-looking light.

I agree. You could do 3 120w fixtures but may be able to get by with 2 160w. They are a great looking light. I just got one on my tank recently and could not be happier. I am still working them up slowly to not cook anything so I can't really vouch for growth but the colors are great. I went with the 16k
