Golan's 24G Aquapod Reef Thread

This is my 2nd reef tank setup. My first being a 90G as some may have seen before. I started working at Aquarium Center in Sherman Oaks on the weekends and figured i would take advantage of my employee discount right away :)

I bought the 24G Aquapod and moved over live sand, live rock, some softies, and got a yellow tail damsel.

I am overall impressed with the aquapod except for the POS pump - im getting a maxijet 1200 and some locline to do a spraybar. I am not sure, but i think i already scratched the front with a magnet cleaner - can only see it when looking from the bottom up...so no big deal i guess.

I am running it without a skimmer and will do 5g water changes weekly or bi-weekly - no sure yet. Tested the water today, calcium is 410, alk is 9.1, ph is 8.1, temp runs around 81 and gravity at 1.024. Did not test for nitrates yet. I plan to keep the bioload very low since its skimmerless and to avoid large water changes. Will have 2 small fish max.

I have personally seen his immaculate (add hint of jealousy) 90gal. A fine reefer we have amongst us, oh yes... Golan is good too!

Beautiful tank- I'm sure it will be just as successful.

BTW Ain't you a new daddy by now??

If you are: CONGRATS if your not: PRE-CONGRATS!

the coral list for now is:

small brain coral
hairy mushrooms
red mushrooms
blue mushrooms
pipe organ (hitchhiker)

Josh, not a daddy yet :) coming up on June 16.
Thanks for the compliments :)

hey golan, we are kind of in the same boat.
I also have a 90g and a 24g aqua pod
I bought the 24g at aquarium center.

btw, I hate the owner of that place, not the marine biologist, but the other guy. He is really a con artists.
He raised the price of the tank from the phone to when I picked it up.
he is also the guy who told me when I was a complete newb that I could keep both a powder blue and naso (9inch each ata cost of $60 each) in my 75g

which lighting did u get?
I have the 70w hqi and therefore I have an aqua C romero and a hang on the back refuge.

hey bergamer, i got the standard one...not the HQI lighting...it's in my bedroom and only for softies...so i decided not to get something that wouldn't spread too much light in the room.

otter...click on my photo gallery to see my 90g.

Question......u guys think it'll be ok to move my ocellaris clown to this 24g aquapod to share with the yellow tail damsel?

i imagine a couple fish is not even a "light" bioload for a 24 gallon tank..

so 2 tanks now? you are officially an addict:D

ehehe...not as addicted as you!!! :)
I think im gonna move my ocellaris in here with the yellow tail damsel...think i'm asking for trouble? (i am moving him without his leather host)

i dont think that will be a problem i have some 12-15 fish in my 30 gallon "quarantine" tank and there are no issues and almost no bioload as my water has no ammonia, nitrates or nitrites( i do a 10 gallon water change once a month)...

if you want to put a small frag in the tank with him so that he will feel more at home just keep that frag trimmed...

i will be heading over in your direction in a couple of weeks... do you have any frags left over that i can take off your hands?

Gabriel, i'll be glad to give you a frag, but really prefer to do it sooner than later. Get in the car, light one up, and drive over :)
