Gold Flake Angel

I recently got rid of all my fish but one. I was having problems with ich and could not cure it even in QT with hyposaline and copper combined, but that is another thread. I decided it was an over crowding issue so all but my purple tang went. I have had him since my 12g DX nano. Well last week I had an opportunity to get a 5in GF for $170. Only trick was I had to do it without seeing it first. The LFS I got it from has a reputation for being picky so I went for it. The supplier is close so the fish could be sent back if the LFS felt it was not in good shape. The GF was in 4-5 green tented bags and hard to see but did not look stressed so the LFS kept it. It went into my tank from the shipping bag and skipped the LFS tanks. I did a 2.5 hour drip as the water was 0.007 off on salinity and 0.6 off on pH. The fish never looked stressed but is very thin and I did let the LFS know this. Good thing is it eats flak right out of the bag and has not picked at anything but a hermit or a snail. His belly is getting bigger and there is little competition for food. Just him and the PT. Your fish is very plump and healthy looking.

Sorry so long.

Here is the photo. I just hope it does not have a parasite.

Good luck with your GF. I'm sure you will feed it better than thr LFS so he will get plumper and better color I'm sure. Vary the kinds of food that you give him or her.

It never his the LFS tanks. This one came straight from a distributer to my tank. The LFS basically "brokered" the deal. I feed formula two flake two times a day mysis once a day and nori every couple days. The tank was without fish for two months until two weeks ago so there is tons of naturally growing algae for them to eat also. He is constantly eating stuff from the rocks.

Watch for flashing, jerking and rubbing on the rocks. If so do a FW dip. If little "Jelly" like things fall off then it has flukes. Many goldflakes have come in with flukes.

Give him lots of small little feedings. Mine eats just about everything.

He shows no signs of disease other than being skinny. I will keep my eyes open though. I was wondering about internal parasites. His poop is not long and stringy.

I have done FW dips in the past and have not had any long term results. I tend toward QT and meds.

Nice fish. Looks a bit thin. Feed often until it fattens up. Good luck!

FW dips are only good to determine if it is ich, velvet or flukes. If white spots and they don't fall off in FW dips then it is ich. FW dips only works to dislodge velvet and flukes from the fish's body. It does not cure it.

Hypo only works on ich, not velvet or flukes. Copper works on ich and velvet, but not flukes. My personal favorite copper med is Cupramine. Fluke tabs or Prazipro works on flukes.

Like ken6217 said feed him and see how things go.

I am going to step up the freq. of feeding to 4-5 times a day and add squid to his diet. I also am taking the watch and see as treating can cause more stress as many have pointed out. Thanks everyone.

I think you are more stressed than the fish. By the way, pretty soon you will have to put your fish on Weight watchers. :)
