Gold goniopora

tektite

I never finish anyth
I got this gold goniopora, couldn't pass it up since I've never seen this color before. Has anyone else seen one, or does anyone have a gold one? I've seen some that are pinkish-peachy colored, but no others like this one that are golden orange. Its polyps are rather short, only extend about 1/2" - 1". I'd love to be able to find another one of this color that has longer polyps.

I hear theres a bad practice of people dying gonis. I know that I was duped into getting a super bright yellow one with small tentacles my first time

I know, and I don't recommend people buy them without a lot of research. I'm good with goniopora though, I've had this one for over a year now. Most definitely not dyed, the color has only gotten better with time. There are some naturally bright colored ones.

Ive seen these gold/ golden-green gonis at my LFS every now and then. I believe they are coming from Australia. They seem to be the hardier encrusting types, like the red ones. Beautiful specimen and a nice addition to any collection.

wow... keep us posted. im subscribing these are so tough to keep. if you get it bigger id pay big bucks for a frag!

Won't be fragging it for a loooong time, lol.

If you want to start with a goniopora I highly recommend ORA's red goniopora. Very hardy as far as goni's go. Started with one almost 2 years ago, now have one large one, 3 medium ones, and 5 small ones, not including a few I've sold :)

Good to know its not a one-off :) Maybe I'll find one with longer polyps one day. It does seem to be more encrusting than my other gonis.

How are you keeping gonis alive for over a year =) wow I am amazed

Yeah, I get asked that a lot...problem is I don't know!

I've had red, green, green with purple/blue tentacles, and this gold one all for 1-2 years now. Also have 2 other green, lime green, purple, and pink that are doing good but had under 6 months so far so long term health is unknown. So far I've never had one die on me.
