Gold stripe maroon \ Clarki's?

I have a single gold stripe marron clown that has been in the 90 gallon tank for about 18-20 months. So pretty much think it is a female with the research I have done. I need to catch the clown and remove it from the tank before putting any other cowns in the tank. ( Correct ) The clown is in very good health and is about
3 inches in size. Beuatiful fish but unable to pair it with another.
I have tried....slow 3 week period with the other fish in an enclosure...Did not go well and finally took him back in...he was quite small, but could have been a female also.

I was thinking about getting some clarki's. How many would be okay together? 3 or 4? currently no anemones in the tank.
Tanks has been up and running for about 3 years.

Correct, no mixing.
I would stick to one pair.

yep you'll need to return your female maroon, and it wont be easy to catch.

Just happened that when I went to one of the lfs today.
There was a single tiny gsm all by itself. I stopped at
petsmart and found a critter tote ( clear plastic with snappable lid
and a top that has venting ) and took it home drilled some holes in it for sater flow, placed some rubble in it to keep it on the bottom of the tank, and now we start the process again, hopefully it will work this time. The original clown is a bit miffed and has not come out to see the new addition in the first 30 minutes since the introduction. I figured this way I would not come home from work and find him injured.
I will keep postings on this.

Depends. Im not sure what made my attempt succesfull but i have 2 GMC & 1 Clarki in the tank for years, about 3.

In the For What Its Worth department...I have a pair of GSM maroons that have been in my tank for about two years, and were paired up in someone else's tank before that. They host in a couple BTAs I have. I have a blueface angel that decided he had a taste for that burning sensation in his mouth, and was nipping at a carpet anemone. I didn't have too much hope that this would work, but I bought a decent sized wild-caught Sebae clown who hosted the carpet almost immediately. The Maroons don't much care for him, but they only occasionally chase him if he gets too far away from the carpet, which he rarely does, and they actually seem to be losing interest in each other. Its only been a couple months, but so far so good.

It seems like a lot of people have had varied success in having multiple varieties/pairs of clowns in their aquarium...so who's to say that you couldn't have a pair of Clarkii's in there with the Maroon...it could work, or the clarkii's could get killed by the maroon.

Thanks for the kind words. The Original GSM is starting to show more interest and swimming up to the enclosure this morning.
AT least there is no ramming of the enclosure at this time. Both are eating well, and the new addition appears to be in good health. I will try to post pics later this evening.

I had a tank raised GMC for about 11 months that became darker in color due to age. It was not dominant among the other fish in the tank and really had no purpose. I then went to a LFS and bought a juvinile 1 inch GMC and place him in a specimen tank above the hiding place that the mature clown had. I then added a wave maker and increased flow to pre-occupy the fish. I then waited three days with separation, then released the juvinile. The female rammed him for the first day like expected. The Juvine quivered and kissed like he should. I waited three days and added a bubble tip anemone. The relationship was then less agressive. I belive adding and change are part of the success.
