Golden Angel Coloration/Brightness

I have had my little guy for around 5 months and either his color changed drasticly or something else happened. I got mine from DD and didn't quarintine and have not had any problems but what caused the color change. I know DD has really good photographers and I'm positive they wouldn't touch up the pics so...

If feeding is the cause I would like to know... I feed NLS, Formula one and two flakes/frozen, PE Mysis, Hikari Mysis, and Spirulina Brine.

I used to have a pair for more then 2 years before losing them to power outage... but my pair never look like the DD's angel you posted. They looked like the fish you have now. I feed them formule 1 & 2 pallets. Frozen mysis, frozen formula 1&2 gel food, frozen brine, SF frozen angel food, green & red nori, live small clams, and other stuff.. So I don't think diet was an issue.

That looks like bright light to me, I keep mine under actinics only, but I have never noticed a color shift, nor ever seen one that golden

The one I owned looked like your pic. LADD, prolly photographs with light on the side of the fish, and many times in our tanks the light hits the side of the fish we aren't looking at. I think your fish looks fine though, and would be happy to have it.

Your fish looks fine and healthy. All of the golden's I've seen were somewhere between slightly darker than yours and slightly lighter - I don't think I've ever seen nearly that bright orange as the LA DD fish.

Thanks for the imput guys
@tcmfish-i think your right about the lighting i'll probably look into that but i'm very proud to have this fish as they don't even appear in wisconsin.

i've personally seen golden angels in both colours before.

the lighter orange and the more darker burnt orange. IMO, both are gorgeous and you're lucky to have one so healthy, so i won't worry much about it.

don't know if it's colour morphs or what, but i've not been so lucky to had one alive up till now :/

Think the way the picture was taken has a lot to do with it. Mine used to look like yours all of the time, and yet if I took a picture with a flash....

I thinks its the lighting as all of you said. As for cyanide catching I don't know if that is even legal or if DD accepts cyanide caught fish.

C. aurantia has a reputation to be cyanide caught. That really depends on the origin and the collector. It's a safe bet that the gang at DD has good sources who wouldn't use such methods.

I kept one of these fish for close to 4 years in my previous tank. Lost it when I broke the tank down. The coloration was similar to the DD photo, but not quite as bright. I think bright lighting does play a role there. One thing I fed regularly was cyclopeeze. Recently someone reminded me that this food has color enhancing effect, so that may not have been a coincidence.

I've always been a fan of dwarf angels, and the goldens are one of my favorites.
