golden angel , please advise !

A fish store in here does have a golden angel for about 2 months... it seems very shy but does eat nls pellets.
I would like to pick up this little fella but don´t know much about this species... so anyone could advise me ? I have a 125 g tank with some live rock and a betta marine and a shy purple tang inside and I am wondering if it would be fine in this tank (maybe need to remove purple tang). Any recomendations ?

The betta would not bother the angel, but I would fear that the tang would terrorize the new addition. Purple tangs are bad about harassing new tankmates, and an algae grazing golden angel would be a prime target.

I love these angels, but they are very shy and prone to bullying.

from everything i read when i was thinking about getting one, they are very shy, often difficult to feed and eventually wither away and die. so, if you have one that has been alive in a LFS and eating in a LFS for 2 months, you are way ahead of the game!

provided you have plenty of places for it to hide and rock to graze on, it should be fine in your tank provided the betta and tang arent too bold. i dont know much about marine bettas, but i do know purple tangs can get pretty aggessive.

If you have one eating pelletes go for it.

Its a shy fish as you already mentioned, do not house it with agressive fish.
The Tang is a question mark, if you throw the angel right to the tank it will most probably terrorize him, but if you use a large cage with some PVC pipes that the angel will feel comfi with, you got a good chance.

I had one eating from my hand , the moment I put a multicolor in, the multicolor took over the tank and never let the Golden go up, it was still feeding very well.
It died when I added copper to the tank, apprantly they are more sensetive to copper than other Centropyge spp. I had there.

I have one, the tang is gonna be a pretty big problem. Goldens are extremely shy, don't expect to see this fish out in the open for a few months. It takes them much longer to feel comfortable in an environment. If this store has had this fish for two months it's a no brainer. Fatten him up because for some reason mine comes out more when it's full lol. I'm almost at a year with mine and he is still reclusive, I have since removed other fish to make this guy the center piece.

I use a small plastic trash can built like a screen with some larger holes for aclimatation, not a very small one, so I should pick up the fish , put in my qt tank for a while before put in the plastic trash can ... Thanks for advice !

I have one for almost 2 years now they are very shy need lots of caves and hiding places where they can escape to if bullied so make sure you shift the decor in your tank and make some new caves for it before you release it from acclimation box

Seeing mine out in the open is like seeing a Leopard in the game reserve a rare sight!

Are they worth it?

I was thinking of keeping a single fish in a 30g tank connected to my main tank. A dwarf angel was my first choice and I've been considering the golden angel.

Liveaquaria has them.

I have had my Golden now for about 6 months have it in a 150 gallon with a Venustus and a Multi-Bar Angel, some wrasses clowns, blennies, hogfish, jawfish etc.

They prefer cooler water so keep this in mind, I keep my tank between 74 and 78. I would suggest if possible to isolate your tang, and introduce the Golden. If that's not possible then an acclimation container for intro into your DT is a must.

Would be best if your tank was structured with a lot of caves, overhangs, hiding places etc. I have a pretty heavy aqua structure, and because of this, and a few bold fish in my tank, my Golden stays out in the open quite a bit as it feels comfortable, and no one harrasses him. Always a chance though that you won't get to see it much, keep this in consideration as well.

I received one from DD in February. It was slow to eat anything that wasn't on the live rock, but now takes anything put in the tank. It's in a 40g with a pair of Occelaris Clownfish and a McCosker's Wrasse. Very beautiful fish!!
