Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any ideas, experience, or tips on rearing golden coral banded shrimp young? I have a mated pair and she has been full of eggs for a week now. How long is the incubation period until she releases? How can the young be reared? Well if you know give a shout please.
Thanks alot, Rick

my coral banded shrimp pair always have blue eggs. when the eggs turn greenish brown its just a few more days till they are released. even sooner if you can see a little dark spot inside each egg. it usually happens at night for me, the larval release.

Unfortunately, the larvae are extremely difficult to rear and so far, no good protocols for doing it have been established. It has only been done with limited success. There are problems with feeding, the fragility of the larvae, and getting them to metamorphose into juveniles. If you're really interested in trying to raise shrimp I would recommend starting with peppermints and then working your way up. Otherwise, the larvae will make great food for the tank.

Thanks for your help everyone....Yah its too bad they are so hard to rear to adulthood..as they are so cool to watch...but I also read about how long the planktonic stage takes until they drop to the ground and will take normal food...something like 100+days!...yikes! (=O ..oh well

it will take you many tries to get things right but here is a place to start learning on how to do it.

read up on the cleaner shrimp forum for lots of general info, and there is a forum just for coral banded shrimp (its a bit inactive which is why i suggest lookin at the cleaner shrimp forum)
