Golden Puffer Question

I have a new Golden Puffer that swims about when it is time to eat. He tends to spend the rest of him time perched on the sandbed. Is this normal behavior for these fishes? My LFS says puffers are lazy and they tend do do this. I would prefer to see him swimming around more but if he is displaying normal puffer behavior i am fine with it.

It also depends how old he is. As they get older and bigger, they tend to lay around a lot more. This is normal though, they do the same in the ocean.

I have had a stars/stripes, dogface and a porcupine..the dog face was the most active but they all 3 spent a lot of time laying around..and since you just got your golden it will most likley get a little more active as it settles in but they(puffers in general) spend a lot of time laying around..your puffer came from a good source so its most likley a healthy one

Mine seems to always get up for food too. He usually does all his swimming when the tank lights are on- I think he sees his reflection in the glass then.
What does your's like to eat?

Mine is new to my tank. On the first day he ate 6-7 whole krill. Today he only wanted mysis and was disinterested in the krill and silversides A fish that size would need to eat a lot of mysis so it is not really practical. Hopefully his appetite will pick up. Every puffer I have ever owned has eaten like a pig.
