Trying to pull trigger on 1 male and 2 female of one of these types of wrasse. 125 gallon reef tank.

Spinning my wheels, any direction? And dare I ask any other wrasse recommendations....

Thx

I would go with Flames. You could get one of each, hopefully they would flash each other and take on male colors.

I think they are both gorgeous.

I would go with a trio of females of either wrasse. The most dominant female will eventually turn male. The risk of getting one super male and two females is that one of the females could also turn male, which could cause a war with the existing dominant male/super male. Although, that could also happen amongst 3 females too. You roll the dice either way. :)

IME flame females all eventually turn male in smaller harums. I would do a rhomboid pair and a female flame. Or 2 female rhomboids and a female flame.

already have a alpha flame in my tank for 2 years
thinking of adding another alpha fairy, will it work out?

tried adding a stable 8 line flasher(from a friend) but died in 2 days :(

IMO go with the female Flames... Much better odds of survival compared to Rhomboids...

every female ive had over the years ( 6 ) have transitioned to full alpha male colour over time. In less than 6 months time as well

If you have two established Flames (Male and my hope submale). If you add a pair of new females will she stay female or become a male too?

Thanks.

Female flames? They'll stay female for a short while at least... Not likely they'll stay female forever.

Skip the flames and go with the rhomboids. That's my personal opinion, I tried flames twice and even with the male being the largest fish in the tank smaller wrasses bullied it. I figured the carpenters and whip fin at half the size wouldn't bother it. I was wrong they both pushed the flame male into a corner and I had to remove it. This was after using an acclimation box for 3 days with no indication from the other wrasses that they were even interested in the flame.
