Golden Wrasse, Yellow Coris, Halichoeres chrysus

I've been looking to add a Halichoeres Wrasse into my tank for a couple of weeks. I was out in Roselle today for a baptism and on my way back into town, stopped in at Advanced Aquatics to see if I could get lucky. I've never been in the store and he was shutting down but it seemed very nice. Lot's of lights off in the tanks so I didn't get a good look at the corals but he did have a Golden Wrasse or yellow Coris, what I think is Halichoeres chrysus. Unfortunately he had no idea on the latin name but from the pics that I've seen it looked exactly like a Golden Wrasse. I bought it.

After acclimating I put it into the tank and watched it swim around for about 1 minute before he dove into the sand bed. Seeing that was unbelievable!!! Everything I've read said that this is normal behavior so I'm not worried.

Just looking for any useful information from people that have had this fish, helpful hints, etc.

I did get to check out his face in that one minute and it was much more colorful than in the fish store, lines of color that are noticible if you can look close enough. Black dot on the fin so I hope I got what I think I got!!
 
Yes you did get a yellow corris wrasse. They do dive in the sand when introduced to a new tank. It is a juvenile with the black spots as it grows up it will loose the black dots. Good pick up, great nasty bug eater!
 
may stay buried in the sand a lot at first till it gets use to its new
home.I got a coris wrasse and for three weeks every time I would enter the room where the tank is it would bury itself.
 
I was in Advanced Aquatics on Labor Day convincing my wife a 48" 120 was smaller than a 72" 125 and take up less room. I saw your yellow wrasse and although he was faded I thought he would color up nicely.

Glad to see he went to a good home.
 
Hopefully she takes care of this flat worm problem that just popped up. Never had the damn things and now I do, I see them on the glass. I'd rather the fish take care of them than Flatworm Exit.

Any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans out there or past fans? Well they are back and the only thing my 3 1/2 year old boy can think of is Ninja Turtles. Loves them, we even have all the old cartoons on DVD that we watch all the time. He looked at the fish and immediately named "her" April O'Neil. If you're a fan, that's the TV reporter that always wears yellow and hangs with the turtles. I thought it was great!
 
If you want your flatworms ate, you should get yourself a six line, dragonet, or a blue springer damsel. Also up your flow so they get blown off the glass and rocks so they get to your skimmer. That should take care of your problem

How long did it take for the fish to come out and be sociable?
 
You should see it when it becomes comfortable with the other inhabitants. You will see him tomorrow for sure. I have 6 of them in my tank and they almost school together with the chromis its kinda funny. They seem to eat any food you put in the tank mysis or brine.

I heard sixlines were not reliable at all, and the Halichoeres were the way to go. Also good for nudi branches and possibly acro eating flat worms. Who knows, there are so many voices now that it's hard to get a straight answer. I'm no expert on fish, that is for sure.

I hope that this Wrasse won't out compete a mandarin in a 180. I figured that there was plenty of food for both with the amount of LR I have and size of tank.
 
yes you should be fine, from many years of having different fish , I find that the 6 line is the best at eating flat worms and other bugs. Mine hangs around my acros and is constantly pecking at them. Just my expierence though.
 
Got a Yellow coris wrasse about 2 months ago and he disappeared an hour after I put him into my tank I have not seen him since. I just ordered another one from GoFish..
 
I was able to get menard's Lime green.......Im happy.He can see a new piece of coral outside the tank and start licking his chops.I put the new coral on the floor,he flips it and cleans it for an hour or so then I can place it.
 
I have one and it was buried in the sand for about a day or two but now it's out regularly and only buries itself at night.
 
My Yellow wrasse is always out and about I've had him about 1 1/2 years now. He did nothing against leather eating nudibranchs though I had to remove those by hand. He has been an awesome additon though I absolutley love him

Mine did/does the same exact thing. I have never actually watched for him to bury in. I have been meaning to, but every night, I forget. Last night I remembered, but the Cup race was on. Priorities.
 
I hve both a yellow and a melanuras wrasse. Both of the Halichoeres genus. Neither one of them will even look at a flat worm or any other parasite for that matter. From what I have been able to determine your best chance to get a parasite predator is a radiant wrasse. All of the others are hit and miss. I hope that you found one that is a hit. Good luck.
 
My wrasse is out this morning, the other fish are checking him out and all seems well. I'm surprised that he's not going into the rocks to explore, he's just swimming in the middle of the tank out in the open.

Now that I've got a better look at him he looks a little different than the pics I've seen. He only has one black dot and that is right where the top fin starts, closest to his head. No black dot in the middle of the top fin. I'm trying to find out if the dots come in as the fish matures but no luck so far. I'm comparing it to the pic below from marine depot.
