Goldflake Angel...

More than once I've read that you can't keep angels with corals. Do you have any issues in that regard? Do you keep clams?

Takes my guys about 2 minutes to eat a frozen steamer clam. Including tangs and cleaner wrass. I would hate to see what they would do to a live clam but if i do i promise i will film it. he he send it to the tang police. All my lps and anything soft is eaten or placed in sump. The Emperator eats corals but they are big and grow fast. He grew up with them so they can handle it. I loose more corals to my kole tang picking them up and droping the plugs than any other way. I find them two months later when the current finally blows their dead bones back into view. I wouldnt recomend an Emperator in anything but the largest tank. The others dont really bother the corals much but they do nip enough to affect polyp extension. However, even my tangs have learned to mouth the corals for slime and in a tank with big fish you just gotta live with it. The big angels eat almost anything even my leather corals so anything soft is fair game. Actually kinda nice as they keep aptasia gone and have gotten rid of all the zoanthids in this tank as well.

tacwise-How big is your tank and what other fish do you have in there with your Goldflake?

Hi mate,

My tank is a 6 x 20" x 24" with a eco sump.
Tank mates :- a pair of tomato clowns,2 chalk bass ,5 blue star damsels.
6 line wrasse(well behaved),goldstreak blenny and a red sea sailfin tang.
regards Colin.

oh and a royal gramma

Dog boy Dave and tacwise- So your Goldflakes have had no problems getting along with the other fish? I had to get rid of my Red Sea Sailfin Tang (Desjardinii) because he was growing too fast and becoming more aggressive.
I currently have a 4.5" Majestic and 5" Regal Angel in a 140 gallon, but they're both pretty shy.

stuifbol- That's a very pretty angel. I've never seen one with such prominent yellow edging along its dorsal and caudal fins.

tacwise- Your angel looks extremely well fed ( a real chubby one). What do you feed him/her?

No my golden flake is not agressive at all.

Does anyone see a problem with aggression, by adding a 7-8cm juvenile goldflake to an established Colins Angel?

Both fish would be pretty similar in size but don't want the Colins beaten up or intimidated... would love feedback from others who keep goldflakes with quiet pygmys.

Thanks for your time!

I do not have a Colin's angel, but my GF is in with a flame angel (same genus as a Colin's) and 3 tangs, as well as some smaller fish. I have never seen it be aggressive towards any of them.

Unless the tank is crowded (what size is it?), I think you would be fine.

Well catastrophe has struck. Have had the small goldflake which is about 4cm and smaller than I thought, in quarantine for three weeks. Up until this week looked very good and eating well...but this week noticed she began looking tubby.

Well on close inspection she is not fat - she is definitely bloated! No idea what this is....internal parasites - if so prazi won't do much afaik, internal blockage, localised infection??? There are no raised scales or redness . I would really appreciate any help asap especially if you have seen and treated this before!

Thanks for your time.

What a bummer... wish I could help. If that fish dies, would you consider cutting it open with a razor and inspecting inside of gut, liver, etc with a magnifying glass? It's my understanding that a necropsy needs to be done ASAP after death. Sincerely hope it does not come to that.

I suggest posting this in the fish disease treatment forum so it will get seen by more people looking for disease issues.
