Goldheart trigger in main tank

Well I finally bit the bullet and put him into the display tank.

I had him in quarantine for almost 2 weeks and he just wasnt eating, I was afraid I'd lose him after a couple more days just from starving.

He's picking over the live rocks constantly. I had SOOOOO many copepods in there due to running it fallow for a period, he is gorging on them. Not really much food value for a 4.5" trigger, but still it's better than nothing.

I got a couple pictures tonight, he hid in the rocks for an hour or two then started coming out. He still doesnt really do what I would call free swimming, he hangs around the rocks mainly, but he does come out and he doesnt seem to care much about the camera flash.

That's a gorgeous trig Recty. Hopefully the addition to a more comfortable tank will spur his appetite. At least he is feasting on pods...doesn't look too thin either. Got any pics of the humu/clown?

The humu/clown are still in my quarantine tanks, I'm going to let the pink tail and goldheart get used to the display tank, then introduce the other two triggers.

This way my two mellower triggers get used to the tank first. The clown and humu are PIGS and it will be really hard to get food to the goldheart and pinktail if they dont get some time to get used to eating in there.

As far as getting along with tankmates, he is doing well. The only tankmates for him right now are a 3" pinktail trigger and a 7" golden puffer, both of which he ignores completely :)

The goldtail sure digs a lot. I've had him only in bare bottom quarantine tanks before and he never had any sand to dig through. I put him in the main tank last night, came out today and he has moved a ton of sand around. So much the water is actually looking a little cloudy, heh :)

Great looking fish.....I'll get mine posted today still. Problem is I mainly use the laptop....and the other pc has the built in card reader.

Cool, I'd like to see the blue line.

Thanks, I agree, it's a sweet looking trigger. It is the most expensive trigger I've bought, most are under $100 and this guy was about $230 shipped, so I was a little leary of purchasing BUT I wanted something I havent seen in anyone's tank before, so I went ahead and did it.

Some new pictures I got today. He comes out of the rocks now and swims around and isnt real timid, so he is pretty easy to get pictures of.

And then there is the pinktail with him too ;)

I've got that piece of plastic on the bottom that has some coralline algae growing on it, I need to get it out of there, it looks bad, heh.

For some reason the Goldheart loves it, he bites it with his mouth and turns it over, then watches it for a while. Later on, he comes back over and bites it and turns it over again.

Weird fish.

Here is a decent one of the three fish in there now... too bad the Goldheart is the blurry one. That pinktail is a fast fish, I can almost never get a clear shot of him, but he stopped for a second in the first picture so it turned out OK.

Recty, your tank is awesome man. Might start rivaling danorth's as my favorite on RC. That golden puff and goldheart both look fantastic. Keep up the great work.

Heh, thanks!

I actually just broke down and put the clown trigger and humu into the main tank as well about 30 minutes ago.

The humu is kind of ticking me off. The clown/goldheart/pinktail triggers get along just fine. The humu is just going around chasing everyone and basically kicking butt and taking names. I'm afraid after a couple days the pinktail will just die from stress.

Oh well, if he keeps it up after a couple hours, I might be pulling him back into quarantine and eventually selling him back to the fish store for credit towards another fish. I'd eventually like to get a Sohal tang into the mix, so maybe I'll use the humu towards that :)

Sweet looking fish man, and can't wait to see the rest of the crew......there is a reason I don't have a humu....their dicks, and you can't have cleaner shrimp. Yeah that golden puffer looks great!

Yep, well if he keeps being a jerk, I'm getting rid of him. I like having an aggressive tank, but he is beyond aggressive.

If I get rid of him, it will leave me more room for the Sohal I want, and I might try adding some other more mellow trigger as well.

Beyond the chasing, there is the loss in color in the other fish, and the better chance of parasites, and their general behavior is stifled.

Yeah, I'm taking that all into consideration.

The humu is already calmed down quite a bit. He chases the pink tail around some still but is leaving the other fish alone more. I'm still not sure if he will be staying in the tank or not.

Some other pictures of the tankmates.

This is how the Humu version of giving me the finger...

It's too bad the clown went pale here, he normally has much better coloring. The clown trigger and the goldheart trigger both can change their color really fast, more than any other fish I've owned.

And here is one showing how fat the clown trigger is. He really is a porker, he eats a LOT, more than he should be apparently.
