Goldring surgeonfish (tang)

I just got my Goldring about 3 days ago. I got him and I knew he had minor physical injuries but has great potential of being a great looking Goldring and he had another injury in my tank with my hermit crab which I took out right away. What's the best route I can take to help him heal properly? I've been researching on it and people have said to put him in a quarantine tank (which I have one) and have a pH of 6.6, and what's the reason for a lower pH to help healing?

A healthy tang shouldn't be having injuries caused by hermit crabs (unless it's a freak accident)?

Not sure I've heard of a low pH being beneficial besides ammonia not being as dangerous as a higher pH (don't quote me on this)??

QT is a great idea for any new fish and to get him eating well/heal + observation for diseases/treatments before introducing him into the main tank.
