Goniopora: advice, care and show-off!

My question is why in the spaghetti monsters name are those red cultured Goni's from ORA so freakin expensive?!?!?!?!?! $120 for a 1/2" frag of red goni? I worked in aquatic retail for 5 years and we could buy COLONIES of red gonis wholesale anywhere from $12 - $42 size dependent.

that is crazy for that size!

They charge what the market will bear :) people will pay a lot for a proven hardy strain of goniopora.

I know, back when I got mine I paid $80 and it was 6x larger than what they sell now...every time I frag it, I sell out in a day, and that's just to local reef club members. Crazy how high demand that coral is!

+1 tektite
I've had mine for over 2 years and they are still going strong. I don't even feed them anymore - just getting nutrients from fish poo and dissolved fishfood.

I think that has to do a lot with how iconic of a piece it is. Bright red, which is difficult to find in nature no matter where you look, and flowy/wavy adds to it.

The more pigmented and rich the goni is the higher its cost.

This 1 is in the tank for 2 months now and is doing great . It was start dying in the first 3 weeks , because I placed it in a too much flow spot . Change a better spot for it and it is recovering very good now. Spot feeding it once a week

Going to be getting a goni in the next few weeks. Looks like I have the right foot and light. How are you guys fragging them? Dremel?

This is my Goniopora. Is on the bottom of my BB tank, in an angle with low light and low current. The key IMHO is to place it in a debris rich area. It's their favourite food. In my tank since 2011. Never fed with specific food.
Ciao from Italy
