Goniopora: advice, care and show-off!

i'll play! guy called me, he was tearing down his tank and said if i didn't take this, he'd just pitch it. i couldn't believe he would toss something so beautiful! i have it under MH lights, a couple of inches off the sand bed, low/medium flow. seems to like that spot.

those red ones are to die for!!

I've had this ORA Red for a couple of years now. I feed it a few times a month with Nutramar Ova (when I feed my fish that) & Sustainable Aquatics Pellets 0.5 mm size

got a jar of goniopower. goni seems to love it as do the duncans and plate coral. pic was taken about 10 minutes after i fed.

nina - any chance you can do up video of the feeding so we can see a response.

I feed all kinds of stuff and never really get an affirmative feeding response.

mysterybox - great stuff on keeping a gonio going for a few years! Mine is 2 years going.

All around great photos from everyone!

i can try to get a video but my internet speed is slow so it may take hours to download to photobucket. one of the few disadvantages of living in the farthest corner of the boonies. :)

That's my goniopora:

Small but always open:)

Both grown from small frags...

This one is starting to take over my tank the middle part of my tank, it's growing like made and started out as a softball and is now approaching basketball size

This one has been growing slowly but surely for a while now...

I have a few other colors/species in other tanks and will try to get some shots soon, Feeding consists of feeding the fish a lot of a flake food once a day ;)

very nice collection. I noticed you have one right beside a SPS (looks almost like a red planet). Do you have problems with the proximity?

Not yet... It is killing off a portin of a cyphastrea colony and duking it out with the sunset monti, the green efflo and a couple other acroporids will be next, and then it's time for a new home most likely since it's not fitting anywhere else in my tank. :(
