Goniopora - Possible brown jelly

So I noticed this brown spot on my Goniopora coral the other day. I used a syringe to suck it off. The next day it was back so I sucked it off again and gave it a coralrx bath. I'm assuming it's brown jelly disease. Well it came back again and in the same spot and almost exactly the same size. I've read about iodine dipping and scrubbing affected area. Also read about putting powder vitamin-c directly on damaged area while out of water. Anyone have any exact strategy that worked for them?

Thanks

Nobody? I've done iodine baths. Used kent marine lugol's solution. Also tried another brand. I scrub dead tissue off with toothbrush, give iodine bath, and even applied vitamin c to infected areas. The area of infection just keeps moving onto living tissue. I'm afraid I'm going to lose the whole peice before it's over.

That is one seriously ****ed of coral.

I would frag off the infected areas, and try treating it in a QT. If you don't do this, I would expect it to spread to the rest of the coral, and possibly your other LPSs.

I've read that you should treat brown jelly (a type of rapid tissue necrosis) with antibiotics; Chloramphenicol (CAM) being what I find most often used for treatment. I would recommend treating in a separate QT tank with a UV sterilizer.

Here are some articles on treating RTN/brown jelly:

hope you have been making sure it didn't spread to any other corals you may have. nasty stuff!

I dont know how sensitive goni's are for this but my brother had some success getting the brown jelly off with peroxide dips, would foam like crazy(he did a strong dip) and kill all the jelly. I would definitely check with others and see what strength mix they use an so forth but its another option at least.

I didn't try peroxide dips. I did iodine dips every day. Sometimes twice a day. Finally I got some antibiotic and treated it. Too late though probably. Part of it is alive for now.
