goniopora's got a friend?

Looks like I have a feather duster in my goniopora. Could this at all effect the goniopora badly? He looks fine but wanted a second opinion.

Thanks

If it's growing in between tissue it would mean that there is exposed skeleton. Need a pic.

Just took a look at that link which is quite helpful. You are very right, it's definitely a barnacle. I suppose it's nothing to worry about? It is in one of the skeleton holes. I can take a pic when he's retracted, can't see it when he's extended.

Took me a bit to get the pics up but here they are. I believe it's a coral barnacle but looks like it's got some brown gunk around the opening which it didn't have before and seems to be bigger. Any thoughts on this?

Yeah its a barnacle. They are usually harmless. If it seems to annoy the coral just super glue it shut, the goni will grow over it eventually

These are barnacles and harmless. We see theses on wild caught or mariculture corals. They will starve after sometime in our tank since they often will not be able to catch enough food.
On the side note, you gonipora seem to be receding from the base. I would put it on top of a piece of flat rock so that the sand does not cover the lower polyps and hope for the best. Often wild caught and mariculture goni will just whittle away

+1. IMO it's a goner.

You think the goniopora is a goner? He looks pretty healthy to me. I will take your advice and get him up on a rock.

feed him some. When you feed the fish squid some food on him. You will see that he will take up the food and eat it.
Healthy goniopora should be growing and tentacles getting longer and new tentacles developes and get larger. No tissue reseding but encrusting to new surface. they grow by encrusting a lot faster than grow by growing skeleton.

Goniopora that is not doing well, will be receding and the tentacles get shorter, less inflated slowly and gone in a few months

Alright, I currently am feeding him 3-4 times per week, reef roids. He always eats it all up and he has gotten quite bigger in these first 2 weeks that i have had him.
