gonna play russian roulette

OK... my decision is made this time for real... I WILL be adding the multicolor and pair of flame angels. Between positive suggestion, many totm with dwarf and an angel compatibility spreadsheet that i found showing 80% success rate it's worth a shot!

Thank you all for your help. i would like to keep this thread alive with how it turns up.

AND as an added treat I am getting a pair of dwarf golden eels. It's a good bday this year!

OK, multicolor angel is in and eating great. No nipping as of yet. :)
next is a harem of flames...

and now i want a freakin potters lol ... not gonna do it

Dont do it! They are nice fish but not worth it in a reef. Ive had flame, coral beauty, emporer. Had to trap all of them eventually.

It's too late :) The multicolor is in and i am about to place an order for 3-4 flames. So far the multicolor has not show any interest in color. He has been feding like a pig mostly from the water column. I feed my tank like crazy so hopefully this will deter them.

I'll keep you all posted

juvinile angels eat all sorts of stuff, mature angels eat your favorite coral. Its not if but when. Heres hoping the first few chambers and empty bud ;-0

I feel pretty good about it :) My tank is mostly sps and only a few zoos that i really care about. The few lps I have there are left from my pre-sps days, so just basic blah stuff nothing designer/rare/expensive.

The multicolor has been doing great so far, eating from the water column, picking at and around the rock. There is always food available in this tank so hopefully that will help. Will keep you posted!

ive had my flame angel for 4 years in a 65g sps/clam...I've only seen him nip at a coral once..and thats because the sps was dying with the skin flaking off.

That's what i have been finding that they will pick at unhealthy specimens. Also, most people have been having issues in small and very sterile tanks. Mine is a 180 full of corals and food

just what 3 to 4 months and they will start to nips on corals .

Faisal, although this is a nontraditional move, I dont think that you can just say it's not going to work. I have done plenty of research and yes, many many people have had issues. But many many have had success. Here is my conclusion after talking to many people who have been successful.

1. The house them in large tanks highly stocked with coral so they just dont "gang-bang" on one
2. The tanks are not sterile. There is plenty of detritus available
3. The feed very heavily and a variety
4. Have some good luck

Attached is a spreadsheet with a survey someone did on the compatibility of dwarf angels. As you can see Flames have a 80% success rate. Sorry i cant give credit to who carried out this research since I just stumbbled upon it... But here's a big THANK YOU.

I've got a Regal and a Flagfin in my 100g SPS Dominant Reef. They dont touch any SPS, but I've caught them nipping at my Lobo and some zoos here and there but no major damage. Zoos and Lobo remain fully open!!!

Feed well and plenty my friend!

Awesome! Yes i do/will feed tons! My system can handle it :)

Ok, so received my 3 flames this morning and just placed them into the display, so not turning back... without a trap at least :)

It looks like there may be two sub-males in the group so hopefully they will all behave.

update: two flames have paired the other is MIA :(

The good news is that i have not seen any nipping from the flames or multicolor at all!

I have multibarred paracentropyge or whatever in my 100% SPS frag grow out tank, and he is LOVIN every minute! Never seen him pick, and he hides most of the time.

Every thing is great so far... no nipping so far and they have quite the fat belly from all the food i give them :)

Well that third Flame is definately a gonner I have not seen it. The pair is doing great just a bit of chasing once in a while. The multicolor angel is doing great... to be honest I dont see what the big deal is with the multicolor. I would have rather gone with a potters but 4 angels maybe pushing it.

do yourself a favor and make sure there is nori on a clip to snack on at all times and you should lessen your odds for probs.

I'll do one better :) a nori clip on each side of the tank which is always loaded for my fat hungry tangs. Trust me these fih are FED

Thanks for the tip!
