Good news bad news

Man that sucks! You could try lidocaine gel on the burns if they aren't open. It's the same stuff they use for hemorrhoids..lol

The burns that arn't open don't really hurt much at all in contrast to the open wounds. It's the ones that are through the epidermis and into the dermis that hurt the worst. Oddly, the ones that are deep into the dermis don't hurt all that much more than the burns that arn't open. But those are the burns that may need grafts.

The silver lining is you learned something about your anatomy

It’s been over a week and the pain is still constant and excruciating

Just getting up in the morning is a 15-20 minute ordeal. There is a 10”-18” strip of skin missing that goes almost all the way around my thigh. If I stand up it feels like my leg is a balloon filling with blood and about to explode. Either I get so hopped up on pain meds that I can't remember my kids names or I slowly raise my torso and lower my legs using pillows to prop them in stages until the pain subsides in each stage. Eventually I am standing.

Once I am standing I never want to sit or lay down out of fear of the pain involved in standing again.

Sounds like you should be wearing silk pants to avoid abrasive clothes. To bad they only make it for women lol

It's going to get better bro, a little at a time even though you'll feel like you'll never be human again.

So sorry about your accident. Burns are something most people don't know much about until they have a personal experience with them. It will get better. It'll take a while but time will help. Our son got mostly 3rd degree burns on 35% of his body- stomach, arms, face, neck, ears when a propane stove blew up and lit him on fire. He had skin grafts on all those areas and over time healed amazingly, so the grafts really helped. Wound care when he got home was crazy but 2.5 years later it's just memories and he's recovered. It gets better it just takes some time.

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I really had no idea just how much pain someone could experiance untill I was burned. I’mgld to hear your son had recovered. I know that I will recover but I will never be the same.

Did you quit or still vape?

wow 556, get better soon. I vape too (quit smoking 3 years ago) and can't imagine the pain/suffering you're going through... just retired a bunch of batteries that i've been using for a while. obviously an unlucky freak accident... get well soon!!!

Wow. That's crazy how it just exploded. That shouldn't have happened, though it could have been much worse. So I'm glad to hear your going to be ok with time.
What I want to know is if your thigh got badly burnt all the way around but yet your balls are ok, what the hell kind of underwear were you wearing? That's some damn good protection. On that note, this is one way to get your wife to try out some new and interesting positions.

Do your research on batteries, that's all I can say.

Trust me, she doesn't need a reason. :D

I believe it was an IMR 18650, it wasn't in a mod. It was a spare for later. GC has the battery, I'll get it back and have it analyzed.

Was wondering if you ever sent the battery for analysis and got more insight on what happened? Surprised to hear a protected IMR cell go into thermal runaway on its own. Makes me want to throw away all my 18650 flashlight batteries.

All the best on your recovery

It's incidents like this that remind us how special life is and how easily things can change in the blink of an eye. When I had my motorcycle accident I learned a new sense of appreciation and gratitude. It's funny how life can teach us the most powerful lessons in the least likely of situations. Really a good thread to bring awareness of appreciation to all of our lives. 556 be well!

And happy Reefing y'all!
