Good Rebel XTI lens

I just recieved a Rebel XTI as a present from my friends but it is the body only. I was wondering what is a good lense under 200. Can you please help me understand what each does.

For around $175 you can get Canon's EFS 18-55mm IS lens. This lens is a great little lens and will produce quality images. It should get you started in the right direction. Remember, image quality is all about the lens quality.

I just purchased an XTi, and I did a lot of online reshearch. This lens got good reviews.

I just started doing more research and wow they can get pricey. I was looking to spend a little more and get a macro lense to take close up shots. I keep hearing that the macro canon 100mm is good lense. Any other that you guys recommend?
