good sponge? bad sponge?

Hey there -

I've noticed 4 or 5 colonies of this sponge starting to "take off" around my tank... it is white on the underside of rocks, and gray/black where it is exposed to light (though the growing tips are always white).

As you probably know, there is a ton of "conflicting opinion" about sponges on the internet, so I'm hoping some of the gurus from our club will a) have seen this sponge before, and b) have some idea whether I should get it out of my tank ASAP... or let it grow and be yet another example of "the wonders of nature" that keep us all hooked on the hobby :-)

Feedback appreciated - thanks!!

I am by no means an expert but that one looks pretty benign. I am having some issues with the yellow ball sponges. I think they are causing issues with zoas that are in the same areas. Possibly irritation of some kind but I'm not really sure.

thanks for the feedback... I'll let them be for now (and I'll keep an eye out for irritation and pregnancy, Tom - thanks for the tip! :-) )

I have a small colony of zoas that are surrounded by a white sponge very plain looking. Zoas don't seem to mind at all still budding right through the sponge.

Old thread alert!

Does anybody know where to find some more info on this, researched chicken liver sponge, I don't belive that's a correct ID. I have the same sponge. Its going nuts in my tank. Some acros are starting to STN where touched by the booger.
