good to add new fish at lights out??

I have 3 Bangaii cardinals that are done with QT tank for observation.

I plan on adding them to the DT tonight after lights out.... is this generally a good practice for adding fish or is there a better time?

I've seen some people say they do it that way. personally I like to do it in the am give the fish time to find a good spot they want to chill rather then drop them in a dark tank random flow the very idea of it happening to me is alittle unnerving

Yes, it is better to add them when the other fish are more relaxed which is when the lights are off. I usually put a new fish into the display in the morning, and then keep the lights off for a while. I feel like it's better that they at least have ambient room light to see their surroundings rather than it be very dark. But this is just a guess on my part. I don't know how good fish night vision is.

hmm interesting.... I wonder what affect it has doing it at night or in the am?

i've always used an acclimation box. most times, it's just for a few hours. once or twice i've left the fish in it for a couple of days. they go in as soon as they're done with qt, no matter what time of day. when i release it into the tank, i always feed at the same time. the other fish are so busy chasing food, they don't seem to even realize there's a new guy on the block.

About 20 min before lights-out: gives the fish time to scope it out and find a spot without a fight.

Agree with Sk8r. I add new fish as the lights are dimmed about 20 mins before they go off.
