Got a new clam... need some advice :)

Got tubes?
Hi all!

I got a new crocea today for $18 (a friend with connections ;) ). I am currently acclimating it (and have been for about an hour... its already open! :) ) and I'm just not 100% sure what to do with it after that.

If I understand correctly, most people suggest putting it on the sand for a while (how long?) and then try to get it to attach to a smaller rock so you can move it around but it can still be on a rock. How in the world do I get it to attach? Just stick it on the rock?

Is this about right? I've got the perfect rock for it. The clam is not huge... probably about 3" to 3.5". Beautiful little clam, though. Not an ultra, but very nice nonetheless, especially for $18! :)

Any advice is greatly appreciated! For now until I hear otherwise, I'll just set him on the sand after acclimation. :)

Thanks!

Brandon

Bury the rock that you want it to attach to in the sand then put the clam over the rock. It will attach over the next couple of days. Then you can start moving it up the rock work in slow increments. Nice find. Id be a liitle nervous keeping it in a tank with a coral beauty though. Nice find btw.

Very cool. Thanks for the reply. I'll do that tonight.

I am nervous about the coral beauty. But so far no problems. The coral beauty has also never bothered any corals (although he has nipped at my poor nassarius vibex... ) so I'm hopeful. :)

The CB is actually why I got this clam... before I go spending $100 on an ultra, I'm gonna make sure the CB is going to play nicely. :)

Thanks again for the advice, johnnybravo234. The clam has attached and I'm probably going to move him in just a few minutes to a higher location. :)

Also, great news! My coral beauty angel hasn't even looked at it, other than the algae that was on the side of it to begin with. Looks like I'll be able to get an ultra of some sort! Maybe a maxima. We'll see. :)

these fish change as they get older, i have heard the " he never looked at my clams, then today he just started nipping" comment dozens of times. angels and clams don't mix.

Great to hear hes doing well. A4twenty nailed it though, your coral beauty may go to the dark side eventually. Keep a close watch.

brandon...how did i know to find you here!....lol...i just picked up my deresa today...and that thing is amazing!....and its huge!

BOLO for any pyramid snails, every few nights. Nothing satisfies them more than sweet clam flesh.
