Anyone got some chaeto they can spare? I'm thinking about using macro algae for a while to out compete my "micro" algaes.

My corals look awesome with no mystery rtn / stn, so I'm still going with my recent algae bloom being a byproduct of massive new water influx versus sandbed crashing.

How long a photoperiod does chaeto need? Would a pc lighting fixture over the sump be adequate illumination?

I got some you can have and I'm local...got lots of PODS in it too! nothing bad yet....lets hope it stays that way

How long are running your chaeto lights?
 
my chaeto grows very fast. I have it in my sump and also in my DIY 5 gallon chaeto scrubber. ( I know it's a concept that no one uses but It's working good for me)
I run lights on chaeto for 12-14 hours on reverse light cycle to keep PH up during the night time. I feed my fish very little food every other day and add coral foods once every 2 weeks but I can still pull out a chaeto ball this size every 7 to 10 days.
If you are in the Napa area, let me know and I can give you some chaeto if you still need it.
I usually sell it to a local fish store or on Craigslist but it's free for the clubs members.

Hey Ken I run my cheto the same as winereef reverse cycle for 12 hours 9-9. It grows kinda slow but i have a big skimmer so it takes out the nutrients. You can stop by any day after 6pm that is when i get home from work. Maybe when you come by you can help me with some tank planning on the big tank. today is fine if you want.

Shane, yes, you do have a HUGE skimmer. Must make you very popular with the ladies. ;)

ahaha i cleared the mailbox and tomorrow is fine...call me first sometimes friday traffic can be a *#$%@

I think the key is to buy the highest K rating bulb you can find.
I am using compact fluorescent bulbs from home depot. Kelvin is 6,500 "daylight".
most bulbs say "Daylight" but you need to find the ones that have the Kelvin # on the small print.
Most Daylight Bulbs are K 3,500 and K 5,500 try to find the ones that have K6,500 and also have some power to them.

oh hey sorry guys i ddin't look at this thread...i have more cheto but i don't think it will make to Folsom before it goes bad. It has small pods and stuff in it that would die out of the water. You would be putting dead stuff in your tank. But i can bring some tot he next meeting for cocoloco or anyone else. Just let me know how many bags i need.

PS: I originally got my cheto form this really good fish store in SAC i can't rememebr the name but one of the best i have ever been to so i know theyy have it. Anyone know the name?

i can send u some... i have sent chaeto to NYC and it made it just fine...
if ur in folsom state penn, im not sure if they will let inmates recieve live chaeto, youll have to check with the warden or sumthing... LOL
seriously tho if u pay shipping ills end u some chaeto.

Aww man , I will have to pay off the warden and have someone sneak it it... Anyhow I will pay shipping , $8 should cover coming from Santa Rosa to me in Folsom.
