speaking of cops... they were all over the road this afternoon... took me near 23 min to get home instead of 15!

speaking of snow, i would like to see a real one someday... all i hear about from my dad is walking up snow drifts onto his roof, and not being able to see out of his windows, and not being able to open the front door.

If we loose power, I will KICK myself. I've been thinking about that generator I was going to buy, and I haven't been BUYING it.....

I didn't loose any fish when the power went out last summer because they were all in the basement with bubble boxes running, and it didn't overheat.

But a winter power outage could be devastating! Think hundreds of frozen fish! AAAARRRRRGGGG.

I understand how you can say this since you havent seen it, but it is not that great at all.....Ive experienced that crap for 24 years now and IM excited for my first "little or no snow" winter

the problem is that those drifts that are hard packed enough to walk on can only be made with wind and really low temps...and that crap is miserable to deal with...imagine shoveling (or even snowblowing) your driveway when its like ten below (which isnt even that cold) and the wind is blowing

the "true" winter is so cold and lingering that it brings you down physically and emotionally...its not like a nice 30 degree day out sledding with big snow flakes falling all around

However if the city of Ballwin loses power, all Clark Griswald would have to do is unplug the Christmas display to restore it!

I was by Clark's tonight and the display is quite impressive. Where are the pictures Clark?

Houston, we've got sleet/ice/freezing rain here, and it's sticking to the roads. I just got back from STL and the frozen stuff didn't hit until 2 miles outside of Columbia...you've got several hours before it gets to you, but when it does, watch out!

The bad thing about this storm is it is moving really slow, and just sitting in one place.. I hope it runs out before it gets to us

I really can't see it even sticking very well to the ground. The ground isn't anywhere near freezing and it takes an extended time of being under freezing for it to even freeze up.

I was thinking the same thing. I guess it depend on how fast and much we got at one time.. Once the top layer freeze from the temp drop it will just build on that I guess.

Well, it's sticking to the roads, even if it's just a little bit, I can see ice pellets outside. It's been cold and rainy here all day long, with temps in the 40s, so it makes sense that things would stick for us.

TIP:

carry a coffee can full of ashes in your trunk

if you get stuck, put some around your tires

ashes work the best for getting you "unstuck"

much better than sand or floormat in an emergency (i.e. late for work)

I use charcoal ashes, but if you had wood ashes from a fireplace it would be fine

edit: it even works on ice...ice is worse, you can get stuck on a perfectly flat surface, even if the snow isnt into your undercarriage
