got Hostas?

I've got a pretty large green and yellow variegated one. It's probably 3' around by the end of the season.

I've been meaning to move it from it's current location to the front of the house. Are you looking for some?

Hostas, Hostas and bigger Hostas. We divided a bunch last year and have probably 30 around our lot. Still have a few that are 4+ feet in diameter and need divided, just never get to it.

kewl!

kewl!

I shoulda guessed a lot of reefkeepers would have hostas!

I have some MINT hostas. Paul's Glory, Sum and Substance, Patriot, etc.
I don't have much shade in my yard so hostas can be a challenge for me to grow but I think you'd be impressed by my hostas.

They certainly impress certain female friends of mine... especially since I can grow them right next to prickly pear.

We have several different varieties of hostas. We want to pick up a few of the unique ones on this website --> http://www.avantgardensne.com/catalog/category.cgi/4/206/p1/all/N

They have some I've never seen before. They have so many different things that will work in our zone that I have never seen before! :D I wish I lived in Dartmouth, MA so I could just go there whenever I wanted! lol

No need to go way down there. If you go to Orchard park, take transit rd. south from southwestern blvd., just before you get to jewitt-holmwood, there is a hosta farm. He has thousands of varieties, including some that he has bred himself. He is a bit expensive, but like I said, he has thousands of varieties.

I keep a few around the office. Easy to take care of. Been trying my hand at all kinds of other horticulture lately although I have more interest in Bonsai and general growing than specifically Hostas. Started several orange trees from scratch this past winter (I know they'll never be as good as store bought oranges if they even fruit.)

thanks for all the input so far

thanks for all the input so far

and thanks for that link, Tom.

That's what I'm talking about. I love Birch trees but they aren't good around a pool 'cause they're messy. Still- I'm trying to work them into my backyard landscaping. I see that grass in Jerry's pix. Same stuff, right?

I have a hot tub and I wanna get some more privacy happening around it.
Keep the input coming in, folks!

I'm considering growing some large Hosta species around the outside of my inground pool fence in order to provide a "tropical feeling" privacy screen.
Although Hostas are primarily considered a "shade plant", I've had good results with the more sun tolerant species. (My yard has little to no shade. Not what you'd consider a good place to grow Hostas!)
I just snapped a few pix of my Hostas

this is my front walkway that gets BLASTED with hot intense sunshine from sun up till about 3PM every summer. This hosta is called "Patriot"

Here's a Hosta mix. "Pauls Glory" is the largest and oldest. It's flanked by "Sum and Substance" in the back which will ultimately end up being the largest Hosta in this grouping.

I'm not much into gardening until I get a house of my own. My mother in-law currently has just common Hastas growing on the back side of the house. They get about 6 hrs of sunlight and we live on old marshland so the soil is always nice and damp. Last year these things got to about 3 feet tall and hit almost 5 feet with the flowers. I remember taking a picture last year of them. I will throw up another picture tonight Gary. I really like those Patriot Hastas.
